Dario you are correct. One more interesting bit to throw into the pot: part of the problem is that Mexico's citizens have been disarmed by law. Private citizens cannot legally own arms. Thus they have to cower to the sides in the street wars, and have no "authority" to tell the narcotraficantes "not in MY town, bugger off". They are doormats for whoever HAS the guns.

I say, allow provate citizens to possess weapons, and see how long it takes for the cartels to back down a few pegs. Some towns do NOT want the thugs, or their money, but have no way of TELLING them so. Arm the citizens, and see whether they back up their commands to find another territory. Yes, it will get even bloodier for a time.... but justice will even things out, and the narcotraficantes will no longer OWN the country. For one thing, there will be fewer of them. Some pushing up mesquite out on the hillsides, others finding honest work, as they'd prefer to live a long life and be a bit poorer than lose their life trying to get it all this year.

Perhaps then the natural forces that drive production and a nation's economy can get back to work, and Mexico will prosper within her own borders, rather than by sending millions over OUR fence to ship dinero home to their hungry kids.

One more sterling example of a people, helpless to defend themselves against tyranny, because they are disarmed by government fiat. Do WE want that scenario? they do.. for us. And their own profit. Tell them "not in our country, bugger off".

How can the news media forget the hundreds of thousands of M-16s, and other light arms like grenade launchers and LAWS rockets, that the US government gave to the right-wing dictatorships of Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatamala, and especially El Salvador during the revolutionary wars of the 1980s? Remember, back when President Reagan was worried about the Nicaraguans invading Texas?

Considering how many soldiers of those nations, and especially of Mexico, have gone awol with their weapons and joined the drug gangs, it is utterly ridiculous to believe that all these automatic weapons come from gun shops in the US!
