There is also the issue of the difference between the words currency and money.
In a nutshell, currency is that paper that has no other value except governmental decree.
Money is anything that has value.

Interesting side note. Everyone has to accept the US Dollar as a form of payment, right? Wrong. It is only required by law to be accepted for payment for goods or services already received. You can require anything you want as a form of payment, as long as you get it first.
..... That's the legal side, but I still would not want to test it in court as we all know that the courts are not always fair and there are enough cases with screwed up rulings. Courts are run by lawyers and lawyers have twisted minds where logic does not always rule. In the words of Bill Clinton - "it depends on what your meaning of the word 'is' is."

Here is an image I see. Would you trade ammo let alone a gun for some food knowing that same person could come back with said gun ammo? Better barter items would be mini liquor bottles, food, soap, toys, perfume (no bathing), feminine products etc. Small light in weight and needed/wanted by everyone.

If you want the silver same day go to Affordable Jewlers in downtown portland! Quantity is based off daily inventory, so call ahead if making a large purchase. I have done this several times and payed no more than $1.52 over spot.
North West Territorial Mint dose not charge shipping if purchase is larger than 50oz. They say shipping is 6-8 weeks. May take 2-3 months before it arrives:[ Witch is good due to demand. They have the silver available but are a small mint. Meaning they pour and make it in Kent Washington to fill your order. You can order smaller quantities with a shipping fee of $20-$30 bucks. Witch averages out to $3.00 over spot and it arrives a lot sooner, mostly because it's on hand and doesn't need to be ran threw the mint. Plus they take Money Orders and cashiers checks, I have yet to find a large bullion dealer who dose. Most places want credit card or wire transfer.
North West Mint dose have a 1oz coin and bar that is pressed into 1/4's Called Stage Coach Silver. "For When you have to get out of Doge" They are made to break up into 1/4oz pieces. Got a good laugh out of that. [URL="http://www.ajpm.com"]

Lear's price is only 87 cents over spot. I have been picking up silver and gold for a couple of years and have not found a better deal on silver.

The other thing I have done is posted on craigslist that I am buying silver and will pay spot. I have picked up over 100oz like that (all 1oz rounds).
(I guess this is a better deal).

What is shipping at Lear's? The info I found was $24.00 and a $13.00 per thousand? I like that Idea of posting want adds.

Last time I ordered I did not pay for shipping. I had it go to my mom's house and used a free shipping code (I've already bought from them before, so I was not eligible for free shipping).
Time before that I bought 50 oz of silver and some gold and I think I paid about $25 for shipping.

That's why I posted that coupon code (7B6D9). If it's your first order with them and you spend at least $1500 the shipping is free.

To me it is good and and bad news. When we had that last pull back I wanted to buy some more, but could not make up my mind whether to get silver or gold, and did not buy either. I have more in gold than silver so I really should have picked up silver. I did not, and now I'm seeing it going up.
I guess I should be get more regardless where it is at right now because there is a very good chance that the dollar will drop down to $50 per troy oz. this year.

So, has anyone watched Schindlers List ? When the jews had their riches stolen most of them tried to move into gold, silver and diamonds. They were forced into the big cities and systematicly robbed of everything they had. Of course it would take the socialist collapsing the dollar or stopping the flow of oil to force people to the cities. Nah, never happen again LOL LOL

Schindlers List was just a stupid Johnny come lately movie. I've spent my early years in Europe and seen plenty of those kinds of movies.
This will not happen in the US, because unlike Germany and the rest of Europe during WWII, those who would want to target people like that will not have an easily identifiable target. The Jews in Europe could not just disappear into the general population. Contrary to what is being promulgated by different people, being a Jew is not just about religion. It is a ethnic group, and throughout centuries they have pretty much kept to themselves. This lack of intermixing with the local population made them very easy to spot. They looked different. That isolationist behavior is also what is really behind the most of the Antisemitism in Europe. They did not consider themselves xxx (insert the name of a nation), so neither did the native population.
That is not true in the US. The population here is not even remotely monolithic. The government would never be able to turn on the entire population like that. Yes, the clowns in government do step over the line all the time and most of the time don't even care about the constitution but they can only push things so far. As long as you are able to vote than this sort of a thinking is just being too paranoid. Mostly what you have to worry about is those useless and self serving arses in government ruining the economy and crashing the currency. This is why it is good to have some of your assets in precious metals.

Makes me really happy for those Morgan Silver Dollars I got for Christmas when I was a kid. I always hated them too because I couldn't play with them. Took a lot of explaining why I should like them back then. :s0114:

Bought some Apple stock in 2003 at $7.50 a share. Sold a few shares the other day to buy an AR at $330+ profit per share.

Good for you, but I would not bet on Apple staying at that price forever. They were on the verge of bankruptcy not that long ago, and I am betting they will be in that same situation in a couple of years.
Why? Because they are greedy control freaks who have not learned their lessons from the past. They got lucky and hit it big with the iPod, which than they leveraged to launch the iPhone and now the iPad (no I have not forgotten about iTunes).
However being such control freaks they want a cut of everything that is installed or used on those devices. Google will eat their lunch with Droid (and I don't even like Google). Where Apple restricts people and corporation as to what can be installed on the iPhone or the iPad, Droid devices have no such restrictions. There are apps that radio programs provide for free, but when you install it on your iPhone, you have to pay for it, because Apple want to get revenue. The same app for the Droid is free. Apple has a small head start, so the user interface is a bit better, but Google has deep pockets and some of the best talent on this planet. Droid will catch up to them soon enough, if it's not already there.
Even without Droid competing against them Apple would be done in a couple of years. They are a fad and as with all the fads - people who are into fads are a fickle bunch, and so fads change.

I think we can all agree that tangible assestts are the primary thing that we should be storing. What do you do once you have accumulated what you believe to be the correct amount of water, foods, seeds, fuels, medicines, tools and guns and ammo? It seems that having an amount of precious metals is wise as we cannot always be entirely sure of the extent of an econimic collapse or a social upheaval. If we fall to an entirely barter system level then precious metals will have a less signifigant place in commerce but still be useful..... here is an example.

You are a farmer and you bring your large harvest to the market. You get all of the common things you need by trading but still have a LOT of your harvest to trade. Since no one has the other less common items you still need you accept some silver bullion for the remainder of your harvest. This will allow you to gain some non persihable value from your harvest. You can then return another day and find those less common items you were seeking. Precious metals are a compact, portable and dense way to store wealth and have their uses.

I for one keep gold, silver and cash as part of my diversified preppers portfolio along with my food, fuels, guns and ammo. IMHO, Since we can never be really sure of what will be coming it is a good idea to diversify.
