Update:
The legislation is too vague: I mean, I can notch all of my cast bullets with a simple X from a penknife and call myself safe.

"Assault Weapon" is not defined and the legislation fails to realize that all firearms manufactured are coded with a manufacturer's serial number.

This is a good example of the blind leading the blinder.

I couldn't open the Kalif. ammo accounting pending bill, and it has been very silent on their Gov. instead of allowing it to die, signed an handgun ammo registration law. Purchases are recorded, picture ID, and thumb prints. There are no mail order sales, and all sales to be face to face with a FFL Dealer. I think that it was struck that the sales of over 50 rounds must be a licensed dealer. I look for the residents to go out of state to shop in already stressed states that can't supply their own residents withh ammo.
Yesterday afternoon, a stop at Sportsman's Warehouse in Medford Yielded the following: No primers of any kind except shotgun, some powder, very limited bullets. Loaded ammo limited and very high priced, shot gun shells there was a fair supply available. There was not a single box of 22 ammo of any kind.
It seems strange that all those restrictions, and no product to restrict!!!

Who needs an assault weapon, when you have a barrel shroud, the shoulder thing that goes up.

The 68 gun control act required any ammo that fit a handgun had to be registered when you bought it. After many years of paperwork and not one single crime being solved due to this massive intrusion on our rights the regulation was done away with.

Thank the liberal progressives if stupidity comes back our way.

Yep I remember that one also. This is recent of a couple of weeks back. Don't recall the rabit author of the bill. The so called Republican? Arnie signed off, and is law now! I think also a bill to kick in soon, will ban all bullets that are not coded. Uncoded ammo destroyed or turned over to LEOs. Without ammo the firearms are very expensive clubs!!!!

No clue why all the gun groups are not marching the streets in protest over this one. Instead they vote the same crazy anti gunners back into office. Stateline is very close to where I live. Horror stories are numerous. A latest one of a known person who put his shotgun into a pawn shop to be able to pay a pending bill. He discovered that the ownership was now the pawnshop. He had to go through a background, and fees for the paperwork, followed by I think a ten day waiting period. All this and the pay back of the loan.
There are many camels attempting to get their noses under the tent. Slowly by attacking ammo and switching over to firearms, the erosion continues. Oregon several years ago caved in to allowing a bill to pass on gun shows. No transactions without a background check at gun shows whether a FFL Dealer or not. They allowed it to happen to prevent stronger laws to pass. What a crock. In these times of critical events, firearms and ammo should'nt be on any lawmakers minds! Just remember the high density cities in the NW have the voting power, and appear the same crazies that are south of me may even be related by blood, family trees, or just power nuts! Gov. Arnie when he signed off on the ammo handgun registration bill made a comment that he felt it was a resonable bill.

Some nutjob is always sponsoring legislation like this and too many people count on it failing because it is fringe garbage. You still have to pay attention to it though. Never underestimate how ill informed law makers can be about what they are actually voting on. You have to make sure they realize something is a turd and not count on them being able to smell it for themselves.

the fact that it has been brought up again in enough to worry about. I know some will chime in and say don't worry the sky is not falling but these bills keep rearing their ugly heads up and with the increase in shootings its a matter of time before one sticks.

a lot of people did'nt think the 94 ban would pass cause it was ridiculous law, think about adding a bayonet lug to a pistol grip rifle would make it a illegal assult weapon how could something so ridiculous pass? well it did.

+1

And also, if they run enough of this trash through we're going to become tired of being aware and drop our guard. Thier odds get better with volume.

The definition of insanity is to keep doing the same thing and expect a different result... it's a hallmark of leftist / collective thought.

Wasn't the 68 one a National, or a PD Directive? Kalifornia people have to go back and fight the same old tired dog, and spend more money on a useless law. A broke and bankrupt state, who issues iou's for money that no one accepts for tender. They can't even keep their bad guys locked for too much longer as the guards must take manditory leave to balance the money leaving them unable to pay their debts. The signing of that ammo bill was pure spite. Those that say never here, I can tell you the dense population areas of states do not follow trends of the greater areas with the lesser populations. Especially when the leadership is left leaning, with their mind sets. Because of Oregon's lefties including a so called Republican, were responsible by their two votes, for the failure for concealed handgun carry between states as long as the same requirements are met. There are no dead horses until the last politician who doesn't do his job and infringes on our rights, is gone!

I haven't had the time to look to see if there is anything current up, but the linked site references the 2008 legislative session. So this is pretty much old news. It wouldn't surprise me if they kept trying though.

If they do keep trying and it looks like it has traction, I think pro-2A advocates should be all over this. I think gun confiscation is a silly thing to worry about, but death by a thousand cuts seems plausible. And ammo restrictions are of that sort - the nose of the camel under the tent, so to speak.

But I don't think it's a good idea to waste energy on legislative or administrative ideas that are destined for nowhere. (Or, for that matter, on screaming about socialism like some Alzheimer's patient with flashbacks to his days on the McCarthy Un-American Activities Committee).

Keep your powder dry, boys and girls, or risk being marginalized as an irrelevant screamer-about-all-things.
