I suspect this is a ploy by Ryan to seal his appeal to moderate Democrats, as he will be presented as a "write in" delegate at the RNC, and take the nomination.
Bottom line: politicians looking out for themselves, as usual and always.

The political class are all the same regardless of party. They are all in it for the power and riches (exempted from insider trading laws, sweetheart loans for property sold for a penny on the dollar, etc.). The Republican elite hate Trump more than the Democrats do - it's a sign that their base is all uppity and not doing as told. That may be why Ryan is selling us out - fear that people are taking the red pill and might start fighting back.
