Murray backs bill banning assault weapons

She wants Washington to be just like California....

The bill would ban the sale, manufacture, transfer and importation of 205 named military-style assault weapons, although current owners of weapons could keep them.

The bill also bans any assault weapon that uses a detachable magazine and has at least one military characteristic, including a pistol grip, threaded barrel or telescoping stock. Again, owners of weapons matching these descriptions could keep them.

Magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds of ammunition would also be banned, exempting current owners.

The Assault Weapons Ban, if implemented, would require a background check on future sales, trades or gifts of assault weapons named in the bill as well as require grandfathered assault weapons to be stored in a secure gun storage or with a safety device like a trigger lock.

A ban on bump stocks, which allow semi-automatic weapons to function like a fully automatic weapon, is also included in the bill.

No surprise. Cantwell is pretending to be 'studying' the proposal.

I would expect the Washington State legislature to move first on further restrictions, as this election gave the the Democrats a slim majority in the Senate: now Dems have the governor and both houses in their pocket.

Unfortunately, me thinks that infection will grow south... In Oregon we're doomed this upcoming legislative session...

A fight that will be an uphill battle all the way. The only fortunate thing, the upcoming legislative session is a short one...

Ain't she great?!

Wait a minute. So a threaded barrel is a military characteristic?!?! WTF is up with her brain?!?!

The difference between this and the bill Feinstein wants to introduce........is you guys have lost control in Washington (and Oregon) State. This one has a very high likelihood of becoming law.

Saying this woman is for more gun control is kind of like saying water is wet. Is anyone surprised by this? The sad part is many WA gun owners help to vote her back in every 6 years, then complain about her. I don't get that part.
