Oregon is so cool! They care more about us than AZ or AK obviously!
Free Stolen gun Check! Didn't know that one.
So do the FFL's use this free service and still charge us the $10.00 Fee?
The background check isn't free sir...
So what is their 800 number?
This is a nice tool to be able to use.
I see now.
Sheepdog, its FREE to just to run a stolen gun check only. The background check is $10.00 and includes a stolen gun check though. The link to the phone numbers and printable background check form are here: http://www.oregon.gov/OSP/ID/fics.shtml

I called that number once and they were glad to help me. I just had to tell them where the gun was so they could send an officer to pick it up if it was stolen. If you give them a false address, how are they gonna know? hmmmmm. I guess if I was going to buy FTF I could call them and run the firearm before I buy.
I called them once and I didn't know the name or address of the person who I bought it from and they wouldn't help me. I probably won't call them again.
Thank for the link and numbers.
This is a very useful tool to have. If the party your buying from doesn't want you to call the number, then you probably shouldn't buy the weapon...
That link shows "Page not found" error. Here's another link that goes to OSP: Oregon State Police - Identification Services Section Firearms Instant Check System (FICS)
There are phone numbers listed there. I called 503-373-1808 but couldn't get it to accept an extension number. I got a recording with options for other recordings. After a few tries at getting a real person to talk to, I gave up. Then I called 503-378-3070 and finally got to talk to a person. She was real nice on the phone, but couldn't tell me anything the recording hadn't already said, except she transferred me to a supervisor, who also couldn't tell me anything. Meanwhile, I have to wait to pick up my recent purchase. They gave me a "Pended" date of April 23 (today is March 13). I tried to tell the supervisor that it didn't take that long last time I made a purchase (30 min. about a month ago), and it didn't take that long to get my CHL (less than two weeks), and it didn't even take that long to get a Secret security clearance in the military. It didn't do any good. So I have to wait . . .
