I wrote every Oregon Senator and Represenative, and have received positive replies, more than a couple that were outright, "I'm a Democrat and I'm not voting for any further gun restrictions". Keep up the pressure folks, that's the best we can do for the time being and then we can say we did everything reasonably possible before any escalations (if needed) occur.

Great short story I read over over on the ar15.com forum regarding the AWB/Magazine ban. Not my story, I just copied and pasted. Enjoy :)

"I went in to our office kitchen to grab a Diet Coke from the fridge, and I noticed people were hanging around in there eating scones for someones birthday (score).

As I'm spreading honey butter on my scone I finally tune in to the discussion/debate everyone was having, and realize it is regarding firearms and an AWB. There were
two guys who were gun advocates going back and forth with their well-intended statements, three spectators, myself and this Piers Morgan proselyter.

I don't know how long they had been in there, but when I tuned in this guy starts with the "nobody needs, blah blah blah.." and "no more than a 10-round magazine bleh
bleh doopity". So I interrupt him and tell him this isn't the communist USSR and I'll decide for myself what I need thank you very much.

Then I ask him why the arbitrary 10 rounds magazine limitation? He goes in to this speech that 30-round magazines are only so people can hold more ammunition to kill
people without reloading, and that guns are made only to kill people. I tell him to get a clue, that guns are manufactured to fire a projectile and the decision of where
that projectile is going is the responsibility of the breathing, thinking person--not the inanimate metal object/tool.

He rolls his eyes, like, 'C'mon, you and I both know isn't true' and then proceeds to tell me he doesn't buy in to that NRA propaganda, and that he and I both know better,
and that they are intended for their worst purpose: killing people.

Without hesitation, and without directly calling him an asshat, I flipped his reasoning back on his profession. He is one of our photographers and I told him that we need
to ban his cameras, because they can be used to generate child p*rnography, which is the worst thing one could do with a camera outside of bludgeoning someone
to death with one. I tell him we should criminalize all photographers for owning cameras, and make every person register their camera, pass a background check and
at any point the government can come in to his home and make sure his camera, photo editing software such as computers, dark rooms, etc., do not contain child p*rnography.
If need be, to be on the safe side, they can confiscate any camera.

Furthermore, any memory card or film canister cannot take more than 10 pictures, to limit the number of child p*rnography pictures that can be taken without reloading.
At this point he was boiling.

I noticed this and told him, don't worry, you're not a child p*rnographer, just your camera equipment is.

He took a page out of the Piers Morgan handbook, and tried to do the 'talking-over-the-other-person-while-they-are-making-a-point-with-reason-or-one-with-which-they-show
-the-ridiculousness-in-the-others-reasoning' move. I wasn't phased. I asked him if he knew how many people were killed with rifles in 2011. He said he didn't know. Asked him if knew
how many people were killed with knives. He said he didn't know. Then I told him, "It sounds like you don't know a lot about violent crimes, but somehow want to propose
"assault weapons" legislation to address violent crimes. Where have I seen this before?"

I told him knives were used in more than 4 times the amount of murders compared against every kind of manufactured rifle. He held his hand up and shook his head as he
walked out of the kitchen, saying, "I don't want to listen that NRA propaganda."

On his way out I said, "Well that's good, because this data comes from FBI.gov. I'll send you the link." "

Great story. What I hear that guy saying is "I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts!"

That is an awesome argument, I'm taking it! :D

I hope that other thinking people were around to hear the conversation and learned something from it. Thank you for the post- I love hearing reason and logic trump stupidity, even if the idiot refused to acknowledge that he'd been owned... I'm sure that everyone close by the situation got the point.

More importantly, this provides inspiration and examples that the rest of us can use to counter the blind lunacy of those already brainwashed.

You really need to mention wanting some "common sense" measures to protect the children. Never avoid a chance to flip some more things back at them.:s0114:

All we can do is stay polite, calm, and informed - at work and in public. Counter their hysteria with facts. Counter their fear with reason.

I have a very liberal & authoritarian coworker who was on an anti-firearms binge after Sandy Hook and the mall shootings and was spewing it everywhere at work. We were able to have a fairly calm, casual conversation about the subject in the break room. A lot of what she was saying was out and out wrong and/or pretty damn illogical (no surprise there, right?). So, in turn, I got her to admit that "maybe I was right" about some of this guns and self-defense stuff.

Keep it up guys. Legislation's only part of the puzzle. Education is the other.
