This a message I received to my email today from the Oregon Secretary of State.

Secretary of State DENNIS RICHARDSON

The State of Oregon Wednesday, April 11, 2018

900 Court Street NE, Salem, Oregon 97310 - [email protected]

PRIMARY ELECTION

The May 15 Primary Election is fast approaching, so I want to make you aware of several important deadlines and opportunities that will allow you to fully participate in the Primary.

April 24th is the last day for voters to change their party registration. Please make sure your voter registration is up-to-date and remind your friends to do the same.

State law only provides a Primary Election for major political parties. If you desire to vote in the Primary of one of Oregon's three major parties (Democratic, Independent, or Republican), or if you want to participate in choosing the nominee of a minor political party (Constitution, Green, Libertarian, Progressive, Working Families), you can do so if you are registered with your desired party by April 24th at 11:59pm.

If you have recently moved, changed your name, or haven't received a ballot in a while, please ensure that your registration is updated. You can check or update your registration status by visiting our Election Division's online portal.

For the first time, we will provide information about each of Oregon's political parties in the Primary Voters Pamphlet that will arrive in every residential mailbox in the state between April 18-20.

This year, the Independent Party of Oregon (IPO) has opened its Primary Election to non-affiliated voters. Those voters may vote in the IPO Primary Election without changing their registration by requesting an IPO ballot from their local county clerk by clicking here to download the form and instructions from the Elections Division website. The Democratic Party of Oregon and the Oregon Republican Party primaries will be open only to voters registered with those parties.

As usual, non-affiliated voters and members of minor political parties will be mailed a ballot that includes all nonpartisan races for which they are eligible to vote.

The state's minor political parties hold their own nominating processes for partisan offices, usually after the May Primary. A list of all of the state's political parties with information and links about how to contact them here.
