Tomorrow, Friday April 8, the House Business and Labor Committee will hear important bills having to do with the reform of the Public Employee Retirement System (PERS). We need you to take action immediately to let your Legislator know how you would like him or her to vote on these bills.

AFP-Oregon has been running TV ads across Oregon over the past several weeks, pointing out the tremendous need for PERS reform. We have special website through which you can urge your Legislators to take action - <broken link removed>. The message that is sent to your Legislators through this site is editable - we encourage you to include reference to the following bills, asking your Legislators to support the AFP position. If you would like to call your Legislators, click here to find contact information.

HB 2113 - AFP-Oregon Opposes - Allows current or retired PERS Members to stay in PERS if elected to Legislature

HB 2114 - AFP-Oregon Supports - Allows re-investment of personal account funds for re-hired government employee

HB 2456 - AFP-Oregon Supports - Removes extra compensation for state income tax for retirees living out of state

HB 3218 - AFP-Oregon Opposes - Unnecessary compromise on 6% pickup

HB 2989 - AFP-Oregon Supports - Removes Legislators from PERS

HB 3116 - AFP-Oregon Supports - Creates 1-year waiting period before retiree can accept government job

There is no more important issue for the fiscal health of Oregon then to reform PERS. We urge you to take immediate action to demand your Legislators support common sense reforms and reject efforts that will make the problem worse.

Please note the subtitle on this section: Local, county, or national legal and political firearm issues.

Sorry, I keep forgetting many people don not want to be a part of, be involved in, educated on, nor read about, anything, that goes outside their narrow field of vision. For that I apologize.

Now, if you want justification on the relationship to firearms, here you go. The higher the Pers benefits go, the more likely the state will go FURTHER in debt. This loss in revenues results in exactly what they did this year, raising hunting and fishing fees, licenses and possibly even background checks.
