Idaho voted 64.8% for Trump in 2016 and 63.8% for Trump in 2020. The Californians moving there aren't voting for anti-2A crap, they've seen firsthand it's failure. I'm moving next week to Idaho so I'll help turn the tide. 4 more of my friends have listing their homes and moving there too, they didn't vote for anti-2A candidates either.

Please recruit more good 2A people to move to the Boise area. My stepdaughter lives in Nampa, and my Granddaughter lives in Middleton. They say that for every person moving from WA and OR, there are 10-20 moving from Salinas, L.A., San Mateo, San Bruno, SF, Modesto, Oakland, etc.... all bastions of conservatism. o_O

I've seen all the new housing developments and golf courses.... can't stand to go there anymore.

Largely in part I agree with this and don't believe running to a state because you think it is more '2A' is really practical.

For one thing I would suggest anyone considering doing something like this might want to consider their interests and personal 'values' as they apply to where they live.

For ME 'value' has always been about the freedom of having public land minutes from nearly wherever I have lived in Central Oregon. As such I can be shooting/camping/fishing/hiking literally within minutes of where I live. Heck I was once camping on the Deschutes River near where I live and had to run home to attend a family event and was able to ride my quad from my camping spot to my house to make the event.

My point being I have lived in states (temporarily - Oklahoma for one) with virtually zero public land and always found it difficult (to nearly impossible) to do the things I can do In Oregon.

Regardless of all the years of anti gun this and that, the AWB of '94, and many lesser issues I have ALWAYS been able to go shooting minutes from my house on public land with no hassles or issues.

SO why would I want to move to a state that might seem more 2A 'free' but only give up what I have experienced as a lifetime freedom of public land?

I read about people who live in so called '2A friendly' states with NO public land and have to fight for range time or pay exorbitant amounts to shoot for an hour. To me this is like having to launch my boat into a pool to use it.

I grew up in the same kind of place. 2-3 miles from our home in Midvale Ut I could be on dirt with my motor cycle, or car even running all over undeveloped areas! As there is there's still a butt load of public land in Utah. If you're okay with desert W/juniper and cedar trees. But dang, that high desert is cold in winter/hot as hades in summer. And the places I played close to home are all gone now filled in with dense housing and strip malls.

A big problem here is private timber companies being allowed to destroy forests, and lock people out of what was once public land.

That's a step in the right direction, I tried to read the article, but needs a subscription haha.
Here's a site to go to, if you want to try and stop the leftist onslaught of our God given Rights. www.evergreenoregonpac.com

Well, the way this state is going, the land oregon and the feds own, when the dimwits are in charge, they lock we the people out. At least the timber companies make use of the resources they own. Use to be if you went and ask if you could hunt on their property, the timber companies would let you. But I know times have changed. Damn if you do and damn if you don't. And the way things are going>>>>> we're just damned. Time to take this nation back. 1 day at a time.:):D:)

I don't quite understand this. It should still BE public just timber companies logging it but no restrictions to the public.

Domestic terrorists ruined that possibility for everyone.

Don't the big timber companies own and maintain that land?
If it's public land (or privately owned) they pay for logging leases.

Kinda hard not to notice that OR's most devastating fires almost always start in unmaintained public forests.

I "Think" that's the way it used to be. I've always loved exploring off road. Nothing serious like "4-wheelin" or rock crawling. But going where you were pushing the limits of your 2-wheel drive Toyota 2-door/pick-up Just getting out and about. So few areas of that anymore. Public forests are somewhat of a patchwork with private timber lands interspersed. We used to be able to go from the top of The Tillamook off Hwy 6 over and down to Hagg Lake.

I "Think" that the states have probably sold land to them. And leased? Makes sense I guess. People have ruined it for themselves though. Destroying public, and private forests where the public WAS allowed to access. Lets not apprehend and punish wrong doers, let's lock everyone out, or charge $300.00 for a key to the gate for hunting season.

This goes deeper in our outdoors now. Guardrails being put up on stretches' of road next to rivers that the public has a right to access. Yet you can no longer park next to the river! You have to walk a 1/4-1/2 mile from a parking area. I'm seeing more and more of this type of thing every day. Oh...if your homeless you can set up anywhere and trash the place for 6 months to a year, or more?

Trees grow back.

Don't get me started on what has happened to the timber industry in our state!!! Before the Spotted Owl, we had a roaring economy here (in NE OR), Timber AND Ag, using forest management and selective logging, and afterwards mills closed, forest closed, jobs lost, govt (USFS, BLM, State Forestry, ODFW, public health, employment, etc) the largest employer in NE OR. The University rules our politics and gets EVERYTHING they want, crushing all other.

Boise Cascade owned most of the land that wasn't public. But they've sold out. And the new company closed the land. Can we blame them? Logging equip destroyed, gates left open, fences cut, trashy campsites, etc.

USFS bought up land on the boundary of the wilderness areas. They went thru and burned down all the cabins and took out all the roads. Mining claims are being shut down. Get off the land!!! USFS manages the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest, and the Umatilla NF. They submitted changes to their Travel Management Plans for those areas and asked for public input. The public, mostly local residents, wanted the forest roads left as is... as open as possible, but the Forest Circus adopted their preferred option anyway... ONLY the main roads left open. All others closed to vehicle, and ATV, traffic. No more easy access to mushroom areas, for wood cutting, nor for getting to hunting spots. All hunting camps are no more than 100' off the main road now or you get a ticket. They come and get your license plate and put a numbered medallion on your campsite. They come back after the season and if you have left a camp ring or a meatpole up, you get a ticket. You leave a privy (toilet seat or plastic surround) you get a BIG ticket!!!

I was told the other day that hiking is the big thing now. A bunch of granolas crowding into all the horse trailheads and swamping the Wallowa High Lakes with thousands of people. The Two Pan trailhead at Lostine River looks like the PDX parking lot!!!

The Second Amendment. The right you didn't know you needed until you realized that half of your neighbors and half of your political leaders are OK with communism.

I've had several friends move to Idaho in the past year. I will admit the idea has it's appeal. But American Independence didn't retreat its way into existence either. I hope that there are still a few Americans left who are more than just a pale shadow of our forefathers who birthed this nation.
I hate to say it but the same could have been said about California. It wasn't that long ago the Ronald Reagan was governor there. Look at the place now. I had my sights set on Idaho but it's slowly turning into California. It's only chance to survive as a red state would be to embrace the Greater Idaho plan.

AND add to this the mtn. bicyclists riding on the HIKING trails as well as horse trails.

I am hearing issues with this as well.
The same happened at the dunes in Florence yrs ago. People hiking got the best campgrounds (no 4 wheelers) and fenced off areas previously open to riding 3 and 4 wheelers. Then they hiked into the areas used for motorized fun and whined about getting almost run over so even more was fenced off for them. rinse/repeat and the people who use the motorized area provide the biggest revenue for the upkeep as well as all the tourist dollars. Now they complain they dont have enough money for upkeep, imagine that.

One of the reasons I moved back to LG from Bend. I couldn't enjoy the hiking w/o having mtn bikers yelling at me to get out of the way as they zoom up and then giving me the finger.

I remember when S Calif was paradise!!!

Yours is not the only story I have heard similar to it.

To treat someone like this who is NOT on a bike, and on an established hiking trail on foot, is evidence of extreme hate and anger issues rooted deep inside the 'soul' of that person on the bike.

It was an irrevocable act of disgrace and while I do not normally wish ill upon anyone it is my hope that 'karma' eventually rears it ugly head and sends bike and rider off a cliff - a very deep one......and others like him as well.......

I don't know exactly why but I am feeling compelled to add my two cents and that is about all it is worth tonight. This past week I had some holy cow insights into my life. I turned 71 this week and come to realize that I am no longer that young fire breathing soldier of 19 seeking fame and fortune when I grew up. Alas, I found neither fame nor fortune to date. No complaints about that just an acceptance of where I am along life's journey. I was born in Texas back in the day when I could pack some canned stuff and my .22 rifle and "go camping". Life back then was far different than now. My friends who never left Texas grieve over what it is becoming in recent years. Sad that. Life eventually brought me to OR - much too long of a journey to tell in these confines. We live in the boonies out side of a drive through town frequented only by locals. The wife has a great job she is excellent at doing. I have said I will work a couple of more years and then retire...again. OR has its challenges but parts of the old OR can still be experienced in much smaller environs. Wifey is an OR Native and her family was OR pioneers in logging down in southern OR. I am willing to protect what we have and assist my neighbors to do the same. But I am no longer the fire breather able [in imagination] to battle the ills of our world. I still do what I can to make things right. At my age, however, voting is about all that is left to us. We are content to live peaceably and respect others as others respect us. Still making a daily difference in our Healthcare jobs. Anyhoo, I have found that not much changes when one moves to a different State chasing a dream. Oh the stories I could tell you about my time in Wyoming. I still believe that no matter where you go, there you are. So, here I am and I will stay in OR and have my ashes scattered over the ocean. Everyone must make their own decisions and I support them and wish them godspeed and goodwill. As for Pops 1911 tonight I'll pet the puppy dog and turn in for the night with wifey and give thanks for what is left. It is still good.

Here in potland they, "Spandex Mafia", get a FREE ride. They don't pay BUBBLEGUM! You ought to see the infrastructure for the dummies. "Dummies" because they never learned that no matter what rules they push on motorized vehicles, the laws of nature still get someone on a bicycle the worst of a challenge with a vehicle. Millions of dollars spent, I presume of gas tax dollars, on mixing bicyclists in with vehicles and in the process slow/congesting traffic which increases pollution and travel times. Way to go green, POTLAND!

Potland is the other place I always get flipped off and yelled at by bicyclists. They don't seem to understand that in the crowded streets of Downtown, one had to SLOWLY pull the car out a bit to see past the parked vehicles before entering a side street. I CAN'T SEE YOU UNTIL i PULL OUT, YOU IDIOTS!!! RIDE IN THE CENTER OF THE LANE IF YOU EXPECT ME TO SEE YOU BEFORE i EDGE OUT EVER SO SLIGHTLY!!! SO SORRY TO HAVE INCOVENIENCED YOUR DAY WITH MY NEEDS.

In Bend, I was trying to enter one of the major streets not far from the Community College. I saw a bicyclist coming down the hill about 150yds away. I went ahead and pulled into a left turn onto the street, and was given the finger by the bicyclist. What is wrong with those people? Do we need to issue Midol along with bike permits???

What is wrong with those people?
Arrogance and entitlement as a starter - throw in extreme liberalism, bizarre lifestyles & beliefs (probably ANTIFA/socialist leaning) mix in some possible drug use and you have the perfect example of a 'Spandex Mafia' member.

What I fail to understand is exactly what does 'giving the finger' to a motorist do for them? Make them feel better ? OOh , I showed him.

I may be wrong but I see these types as nothing more than modern day examples of 'Granola crunchers' 'Earth muffins' etc. of which I had no regard for then and if the 'Spandex mafia' are a modern day version well, I have no regard for them either.

Some of them probably. But the ones I personally know are just really really really into getting exercise. My boss in Bend. My middle brother... he biked himself into 4 knee operations from road biking, two knee replacements after spin class finished it off, then a shoulder surgery after dumping over the bars on a mtn bike. He is addicted to exercise. Has blowouts in his lungs but continued to lift weights after his doc told him not to... 7 more surgeries including taking his lungs out and wire brushing them so they would seal against his lung cavity. That's some pretty serious dedication to exercise. Still plays golf after a spine fusion and several back surgeries. Oh boy.
