I guess on 9/11 you didn't see the news coverage of reaction in muslim countries? With the exception of Kuwait and a couple others, there was celibrating in the streets (far more than a few thousands, try millions). I remember watching palestinians, in particular, and I still wonder why we give them a cent in aid.
That doesn't mean I support torching their mosque... unless it could be proven they were preaching and/or sponsoring violence against americans. Then it should be shut down by legal means.

Just to clarify, I do not support the arson of the mosque. I do not support the burning of a place of worship. But I am curious how some of you expect us to react? We were attacked on our own soil. Again. But this time for a lot of us, it hit closer to home. No slight meant to those connected to the 9/11 tragedy, but for a lot of us, that was 3000 miles away and fewer of us had any personal connections. This is different. Most of us have some connection to Portland. I would never set fire to a Mosque, but exactly how would those of you care to have us react?

And Wheeler, I'm not sure how the LEO reference works, but it would be going offpoint to argue about it here, as we are already arguing about it in other threads.

This gets into an area, where there are those Muslims who allegorically follow and preach the Quran.. And those who follow it literally.

Read some of it myself and what it contains taken at face value my shock you. There isn't a person around that would be able to convince me otherwise that it does not teach violence. Taken literally, it does exactly that.

Was not the act of 'Arson' confined to burning papers which was piled around a computer in an office?
That is not your sterotypical arson or hate crime, those involve burning down a building, an icon, symbolism.

This sounds like an attempt at destroying printed office records and a computer (which held data).

What kind of data would someone want to destroy?
Data that would prove the mosque is an innocent messanger of the Religion of PEACE, or data of criminal activity?

So what hate mongering right wing redneck would have access to that office and know what was on that computer, and only want to destroy it, rather than an entire office, or a mosque?

Who would know what was in those files and that computer, besides the Iman, I mean? What hate filled white man would he share those files with?

The problem with the arson is that it does no good. Nothing useful, helpful, or positive comes from this action. More likely, it will have a negative impact. The terrorist was a loner. But the arson will be seen as an attack against an entire group. And someone from that group is probably considering an appropriate reaction.

Today's news cites the FBI conclusion that a ground floor window at the Mosque had been pried open and flamable liquid was thrown in and ignited. Gee, like you I don't know the facts, but maybe the computer was IN FRONT OF THE WINDOW? Or, maybe it is as simple as the fact that the computer WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE THING in the room that the arsonist could reach? No, probably it was that the arsonist wanted to burn up the space alien from Alpha Centauri who was squatting on his six legs preaching interstellar conquest to the computer..............................elsullo
