how the CRAP are your kids safety effected by law-abiding citizens not being prohibited from exercising their Constitutional right to protect their own lives?

its guys like you that have championed the almost century-long erosion of our rights.

Constitution > your delusions about safety

I second that (how the CRAP are your kids safety effected by law-abiding citizens not being prohibited from exercising their Constitutional right to protect their own lives?)

So I guess you can't present even one incident where there has been a problem at a school from a concealed carry? You need to stop dealing in feel good emotions and start living in a world of facts and reality.

Yes as a matter of fact I do and I've carried everday dropping off and picking up the kids from school since kindergarten through H.S.

That question is outside the scope of the second amendment and is just a diversion.

I'll have to say no I will retain my legal right to carry where ever the law allows. See the problem with people like you is that you can't just be happy with making your own choices you feel you need to make my choice for me too. I say no to you sir, you will not dictate my rights to me.

Socialism is for the people not the socialist

There are no anti-gun bills in danger of passing this year.

Wrong!

Can y'all please stop the hysteria?

Labeling, stereotyping and belittling as usual, yawn.

People might misunderstand and think you are people with way too much time on your hands,

You seems to be that person, though I don't recognize any coherent authority.

lashing out like little girls at every scary rustle in the bushes.

Again, labeling, stereotyping and belittling as usual, yawn.

iomatic, I understand that you want concealed carriers to stay away from your kids' school because some might be inadequately trained and you feel they are potentially a threat to your children's safety. OK, fair enough, but let's think this through using logic.

School isn't the only place your kids go. How about say....shopping. I'm sure you take your kids to stores or a shopping mall. If those concealed carriers are a danger when they are at your kids' school, they wouldn't be any less dangerous when they are at a store or a mall. Should concealed carriers be barred from the premises when your kids are there?

How about a restaurant? Movie theater? Public park? Museum? If you don't want concealed carriers at schools because they are a danger to your kids' safety, the same would be true in any public space. Should there be a mobile concealed carrier exclusion zone that goes wherever your kids go?

If you are going to say no, only at schools, then you have to explain logically why a concealed carrier would be OK next to your kids in a store, theater, or restaurant, but not OK near them at a school. What is it about being at a school that automatically makes the same concealed carrier who is acceptable away from school become a danger to your kids when they set foot on school property?

That is one of the most intelligent and sensible arguments I have ever heard on the subject! It forces a person against CC in schools to either admit they are against CC period, or just plain wrong in their argument that it's OK except at schools! Very good BSG 75!

now you've convinced him that concealed carry should be banned everywhere.

I don't think so. If a person genuinely believes in the principle of CC, then it convinces him/her that it should apply to schools as well.
The truth is that most people against CC in schools are in fact against CC everywhere, and this argument will shine a spotlight on their true motivation, since they would have to admit that allowing CC in general, but not in schools, is illogical.
And these people know that it would be practically impossible to repeal CC in a state that already recognizes CC. So to achieve some restriction on CC, it is much easier to employ emotion rather than logic to simply add schools to the list of officially recognized exclusion zones. And BSG75's reasoning blows a massive hole in their argument for this more politically realistic endeavor.

I see your conjecture and raise mine. I'm pretty sure people have been killed at gun ranges too (re: comic above).

-Alright, show me where a CHL has prevented or helped stop a gun-wielding felon from killing someone
-I'd also wage the lot of you have no kind of training and would probably put everyone at worse risk in a gunfight on school grounds
-Since we're all making guesses here, I'll bet the majority of you have any kids in school
-Since it's legal to carry medical marijuana in some cases, it would be ok to bring that to school?

Keep your guns away from our kids' schools. Don't need 'em. See you at the range.

I have a pretty good feeling I'd have an easier time scoring some marijuana in your kids school than finding a kid carrying a gun with a concealed handgun license.

Keep in mind, progressive liberals are all about emotion. Nothing they do has to solve any problems or issues. They just have to feel good about their intentions. The safety of the children plays very good for them. This has worked well for them in the past to push their agendas.

Wow; read the whole thread looking for information on the Oregon reciprocity bill. Boy was I dissapointed

The amended senate version changed the bill removing the language to recognize other states permits.

Oregon Firearms Federation
Today, House Bill 2792 was, as we expected, gut and stuffed so all the language that recognized other states' handgun licenses was removed.

Yesterday we told you about the amendments we expected to be added to the bill, so their adoption was not a surprise. What was a surprise was who made the motion to adopt the amendments. The motion to adopt the amendments was made by Republican Jeff Kruse.

Senator Doug Whitsett approved of the amendments and the gut and stuffed bill was moved to the Senate floor.

The amendments include the language that would clarify how to lawfully carry a firearm on a motorcycle, snowmobile or ATV. But all this language existed in a clean stand alone bill that was mangled by Senate Judiciary Chair Floyd Prozanski. That mangled bill, HB 2797 now also includes a ban on concealed carry on school grounds. 2797 is almost certainly dead, so getting the motorcycle language in a bill that could pass has a benefit, but all of this could have been easily accomplished by simply passing a clean version of HB 2797!

The amended version of HB 2792 also includes Prozanski's language to restrict felon's ability to apply for gun rights restoration. Both Republican Senators expressed reservations about the broadness of the new restrictions but both voted to gut and stuff the bill. Senator Kruse, after making the motion to approve the amendments commented that he really had not had time to read them in any depth.

There is one gun bill left in Senate Judiciary, HB 2787. This was the original CHL privacy bill.

That bill is scheduled for a work session tonight at 5:30 PM. Given what has taken place in the Senate Judiciary Committee so far, the best we can hope for is that the bill just dies.

Thanks for the info. What a bummer; was hoping my OR permit would be recognized by WY this summer. Guess it'll be open carry for me. If nothing else it will be an experience.

I'll still carry except at the court houses and beyond the airport security screening at the check points (obviously)... concealed means CONCEALED. Schools can't afford to buy books and keep the lights on let alone buy metal detectors and such... too much P.E.R.S. obligations doncha know!

Going back to original topic, HB 2792, passed by Oregon House to "Provides nonresidents who are authorized to carry concealed handgun in another state with
protections provided to persons with Oregon concealed handgun license." Oregon Senate also passed this bill with amendments and now focus on "Specifies when firearm located on motorcycle, all-terrain vehicle or snowmobile is not readily accessible under unlawful possession of firearm law", HB 2792 :: Oregon Legislature Bill Tracker - Your Government - The Oregonian

I choose not to carry for my own reasons, but I have great respect for the carry folks. If I had a kid in school I'd be thankful for someone willing to step up and protect my kid if a nutcase started shooting. The cops are usually not there or useless; hiding out behind a car in the parking lot.

Sorry, but the guy that says he doesn't want a proven law abiding citizen carrying onto school property is deluded. I will also say that when you get a CHL you are agreeing to follow the laws regarding carry to the letter, therefore if this law has passed you must follow it. If you carry on to school property and have to use your weapon it won't matter if you save a classroom. Your thank you will be jail time.
