Never heard of "Bold Ideas", but apparently they're a firearms company in Canby, Oregon that makes firearms for Colt under the name "Colt Competition".

Firearms Company Relocating To North Texas « CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

A firearms company that makes AR-15 style rifles for the iconic brand Colt, will open a plant in Breckenridge in Stephens County. Oregon company Bold Ideas confirmed the development Friday.

Bold Ideas goes by the name Colt Competition, making high accuracy rifles for competition shooting.

The company has not officially announced the opening, but employment applications are already available at the Breckenridge Chamber of Commerce. A non-specific, help wanted ad appeared in the local newspaper classifieds earlier in the week.

Sources say Colt Competition will move into a large vacant industrial space on the north side of town, previously used by Karsten Homes to manufacture mobile homes.

The move by Colt Competition into Breckenridge comes as the CEO of Colt Manufacturing in Connecticut has said there will soon be few good answers to keep his company in the state. Connecticut passed some of the nation's most restrictive gun laws this week.

It also comes weeks after Governor Rick Perry reportedly sent letters to gun companies, encouraging them to move to Texas. Perry sent a message on Twitter to Colorado company Magpul as recently as March 21, saying "Come on Down to Texas." The Governor's office did not confirm Friday if it had sent a recruitment letter to Colt Competition.

Rumors swirled for weeks in Breckenridge that a major gun company was coming. Butch Spencer, who owns E-Z Pawn and Gun, said he figured when he heard the name Colt referenced that someone had just made a mistake.

"I'm tickled to see em get something like that," he said. "I think that'd be a lot better than a mobile home factory."

Custom gun and ammunition manufacturer Jim Mitchell said the move has the potential to draw more companies to the state, with a political climate that's friendly to firearms.

"We're in line to help em, and do the best we can, and they'll be of great benefit to the community," he said. "We've already got people going, hey I'm moving to Breckenridge."

Well that really sucks, if they are moving the whole business. Bold Idea does production machining, more then just the Colt Competition line from what I understand. I wonder if they are breaking off that line of the business and just relocating it or if they are relocating the entire business? Regardless it's a loss for Canby, and there are some good people there, gun enthusiast who maybe out of a job. I recently won one of their rifles and am very impressed with it.

who can blame them the Oregon politicians are not on our side....they may see it as "its a matter of time" before they need to move like the other firearms companies

with Texas openly inviting all pro gun people and companies (maybe with tax incentives to the manufacturers) and Oregon gun laws teetering on the fence I may move too

They're getting a lot of invitations from Texas. Beretta said that they were getting offers including major tax breaks and even an offer for the Texas State Government to pay for construction of their new factories in Texas...

I'm actually surprised that there are any non-serviced based businesses left in Oregon (I mean Northern North California). Unless your business is favored by the progressive left so you can get a sweetheart deal, you are one of the evil capitalists that have to pay for everything. Its only going to get worse, so if I were in their shoes I'd bolt, too.

There's still a few. If I were in their shoes, I'd be seriously looking at moving.

Maybe we can draw some more energy companies that go bankrupt even with lots of state assistance.

We are moving out of Oregon as well. The writing is on the wall for gun rights supporters. More regulation will be coming down the pike.
We are off to Idaho within the next 12 months.

Funny that folks are putting down a Gov that is running a state that has the largest budget surplus in the US. Guess they are jealous and have no defense other than resorting to calling them names. Texas is business friendly and doing well and that does not play well to the socialists that live in Portland.

Oregon has some of the highest RE and Income taxes in the US and its still bankrupt on paper. Gov Perry needs to come up and fix Oregon's financial mess. But, but then people might have to go off the state welfare and go to work!!!! Oh My!!
