    SAY NO TO SJM 202
    2.12.18
One Wednesday, Feb 14, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a public hearing for SJM 202 at 8AM.
This "memorial" urges the US Congress to " regulate rapid fire enhancing accessories, such as bump stocks, in the same manner as fully automatic weapons." It is the work of Senate President Peter Courtney.
As anyone with any knowledge of firearms knows, a "rapid fire enhancing accessory" could be an aftermarket trigger or even your finger. Of course it could also be a rubber band.
With a bit of practice a shooter can learn to "bump fire" a firearm with no accessories.
The "memorial" also calls on Congress to regulate 80% lowers as though they were actual complete firearms. It calls on Congress to require background checks on "partially completed firearms kits" and prohibit the transfer of a "completed firearm without a serial number and background check," something already prohibited under Federal law.
This memorial is clearly the work of people who have no idea what they are talking about.
The "memorial" has no force of law, but it certainly is a roadmap for what we can expect from the legislature in the future.
The Oregon Democrats are using your money to urge Congress to restrict your rights and they are doing it in your name.
This is an outrageous misuse of taxpayer dollars.
Please take a moment to let the Oregon Senate know how you feel about this.

As was stated by one poster in the other thread about HB 4245, letters may be a waste of time, as long as demonrats hold the majority. Politicians, by their nature, care about only one thing, getting re elected, and neither Federal nor state constitutional prohibitions against depriving us of our rights matter compared to that.
Common sense, not common now, is in decline. How many people in America today, if they heard something about Russian lies being used to change the election results still think it's part of a Trump conspiracy even after the facts have come out so glaringly that it DID happen but was done by hillary and not President Trump? This illustrates the fact that people believe what they want to even if facts say they are wrong.
Said a different way, the truth doesn't matter when people refuse to hear it.

Maybe the wrong forum to make the point, but:
    1) If the Russian influence is so strong, the electoral college is a fraud.
    2) I was told in high school civics the Soviets & Chinese always try to influence the west and we do the same to them.
    3) Hillary won what she was going to win. The west coast and maybe NY.

Now, all that being said and with Republicans running the big show, why are we here? What's wrong with this picture? Oregon may have a lot of Californians but it's still run by Oregonians. What year did Oregon ranchers and farmers become afraid of everything?

The problem is the I5 corridor outweighs the farmers and ranchers here and with Kate Brown and the like at the helm it's only going to get much worse.

Eastern OR and WA should just split off and form our own state and leave the commies to their west side utopia.
