Sounds great if you want your comments thrown in the trash. More than likely, one of the staff will post your letter to the senator and show what kind of azz holes are opposing gun control measures that were passed by the people. This is exactly why we're on the losing end. People refuse to put any real thought into emails to the legislature and wonder why we're viewed as idiots.

I would obviously word a letter to a legislator much differently, but would be making the same overall point. Truthfully the second amendment based letters are ignored as we are not a valued part of their constituency.

We need to send a message that makes them look at the right to protect yourself in a different way. Sending the message they have learned to ignore will get us the same results we have been getting over and over for decades. Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results is, well...

They are going to throw it in the trash regardless, that's the point. What, you think lecturing them about your expertise on guns and the intricacies of the 2nd Amendment is going to sway them? Why not try it from their idiotic perspective?

Honestly, @PiratePast40 has done more than 99% of us, myself included. He doesn't need to write our letters for us and I both respect and welcome his criticism. My only point in contacting our legislators is that we need to find an angle that will get their attention and get them, except for those that support the 2A, to reevaluate their position.

For those on the side of this civil right we need to thank them for their support and in turn $upport them as well.

This thread has become a microcosm of why the left keeps winning issues like this. They are quite content to be told what to do and when and where to do it. They will act en masse and get things accomplished. We, on the other hand, tend to be a bunch of independent thinkers and doers and getting us to all move in one direction, without internal conflict, is akin to herding cats. Not house cats, mind you, but feral barn cats.

An additional problem is the voters' mistake in creating a large majority for one party. The majority party doesn't need votes from other party citizens or legislators, so the majority legislators do not have to listen. So, they don't.

Below is a sample letter to the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Remember, we are unlikely to change many minds but emails, letters, and calls will be placed in the record. The measure was legally passed so arguments against it really don't hold much water at this point. We should be attacking from the point of difficulty of implementation and the fact that there is no funding available, at least for now. The bills have not yet been introduced but there are obvious placeholders in both the senate and house, just waiting to be gutted and stuffed. Once those are introduced, we can get into specifics. For now, we should be building up the count against implementation. Here's a sample email that we can use for now:

The Senate judiciary committee will soon be reviewing drafts of bills to implement ballot measure 114 that passed by a paltry 0.7%. The measures constitutionality and legality has already been challenged and Oregon District Court judge Raschio has ruled that the challenges of constitutionality and legality have merit and also have a high likelyhood of being upheld at trial. Because of this, I urge you to hold off implementation and funding for the entirety of the measure until the state and federal lawsuits are settled.

Agreed and this is why targeting those legislators who are in districts with more closely split constituents might be more effective?
