Just because someone takes a class doesn't mean they are trained.
I've had to take a number of formal classes for various reasons. Most were not that great.
Almost all of what I know I learned from my father.
From experience, I totally agree. The military and LEO shooters with whom I worked were all trained as part of their jobs - to some degree. The depth/formality/value of that training varies and is certainly subject to interpretation.
Most civilians I know learned everything from family or friends. While some of that wisdom can be amazingly good, most is generically basic. And some of it is pure crap... dangerous crap. Point is, bad habits can be demonstrated and acquired just as easily as good.
Whichever way, like at least one previous responder here, I'm surprised to read that 60% of gun owners have had "training." I regard that number as suspect.
