I said it was "one reason", not the only reason.
I have had poor experiences with off name brands. One popular PNW mass reloader sold ammo and I bought some, some years afterwards I was shooting with my daughter and SIL and we were using what was left of it and one of the rounds let go, the web of the cartridge blew out and slightly injured the SIL.
I have bought east euro ammo and some of it was ok, some of it sucked. Bought some S&B at Cabelas - supposed to be 'soft point' - came to find out the jacket on the bullet is thick steel and it will not expand - might as well have bought FMJ - at least some ball ammo fragments.
The east euro ammo - one lot might be okay, but then the next lot they swap components around and the projectiles no long expand in anything.
I could go on, but any more I pretty much avoid Wolf, Tula, and US brands I have not heard of before unless I am just looking for ammo to shoot paper with, and even then, is it worth saving 5 cents per round when shooting a thousand dollar gun that the ammo might blow up, or get a bullet stuck in the barrel, or worse, injure someone?
Sure, no one is perfect and I am sure that there are a few problems been had with Remington, Federal, etc., - it is just statistics, but with their better QC, the chances are reduced. I have yet to see the major US brands sell hunting or self defense ammo where they substituted some cheap steel jacketed or steel cored projectile like S&B did.
YMMV.
