the early days of bitcoin are absolutely bubbleguming insane... hackers made off with what are the equivalent of BILLIONS in bitcoin in todays money over the course of a couple years, hacking into the first major exchange. and even back then, it was hundreds of thousands or even millions worth

however, cryptocurrency is now pretty goddamn secure.. and keep in mind, even your paper fiat US dollars are actually just ones and zeros on bank servers all across this planet. unless you have your life savings inside a fire safe inside a bunker under your house, youre more likely to be the victim of identity theft and bank fraud than you are of losing your bitcoins.

The difference being that there is a system in place whereby in a real theft situation (from a bank in the US) you have an excellent chance of being made whole. In crypto, little to no chance.

Until that changes we'll still be in the early days of crypto.
