Then on to the bear pit where the inevitable happens.

..police officer fired today for not beating a $10,000 sniper rifle to the sidewalk from roof of 3 story building.

The news lady is horrible. Where's the important questions, such as:

1. Was the stock damaged?
2. What kind of scope was on it and did it retain zero?
3. Were any hot dogs harmed in the incident?
4. What caliber was it and did it stay supersonic during flight?
5. Did the suppressor keep it from making a sound upon impact?
6. Since we learned tripods don't land on their feet, is anyone going to drop the officer to test?
6. What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen black balaclava?
7. Is detective drop-safe going to test any other department weapons for gravitational durability?

How about the bull_hit excuse for having a sniper on the top of the roof ready to take anyone out who they deem fit. This is normal nowadays right? and it's OK because it keeps everyone "safe" Well who the fu_k keeps us safe from them when they decide we are all a threat to thier power?

And a 'weighted bag to secure it is protocol' (the Dip chit spokesman officer's words)

And it is unattended and in clear view of everyone?

At 3.21: 'You gotta have highly trained tactical officers in these situations'

This is a very bad precedent....
I cringed every other paragraph of that guy's statement. Makes a bad situation even worse.

Wasn't it a Seattle police lieutenant that set their M4 carbine on the roof of their vehicle, and then drove off, allowing it to fall to the pavement only to be recovered by a citizen who called the cops?

What a cluster F. The impact at the velocity it fell of the 10+ pound rifle would have killed someone if it landed on their head.

This isn't a military assault taking place in a foreign land where an overwatch is set up. This is a parade in America. The notion that a overwatch shooter would be able to discern who the potential threat is and take meaningful action against them, is a severely questionable at best. I'm not familiar with these types of marksmen actually taking down a threat at a parade in my lifetime.

This procedure looks like a "tactical circle jerk" more than anything to justify more money being spent on gear.
