Well im doing my first ar build and i got a newbie question for ya. Which of these springs is my fire control detent spring? Im thinking top one.

the Safety detent spring should be the the one that's slightly bigger than the takedown pin springs (usually palmetto gives you 3 of these but you only need 2) and smaller than the buffer retainer spring but longer.

Do you have your buffer detent spring somewhere? the bottom one looks like the buffer detent. Easy way to check is to drop it in the pistol grip. The bottom one looks too big and looking at this image try the top on in the grip

They both fit in the grip. This top one in this pic is the only one that doesnt fit, im assuming its the buffer retainer spring.

I figured it out. Only one of the two fits to be the takedown spring. Proccess of elimination.

i Guess you'd have to tell me:

1. Is that top spring the same as the takedowns springs?
2. do you have your buffer retainer and spring set aside?

if the answer to 1 is yes and the answer to 2 is yes than it's the bottom.

Yes top is buffer. Now I see all 3 it's def the bottom one. I'd also try them in the rear for the back takedown the one that doesn't fit is the safety
