This from the party of the borg collective where everyone fits in a voter box thanks for the projection. It really tells us who you really are.

Good then we wont need to have the ignorance is bliss discussion again - it appears that you are quite happy.

When I tried to focus the blame for recent mass shootings on lack of mental health care facilities instead of the availability of guns in another forum I was characterized as a gun lover and therefor biased in my comments. I replied this way:

When the word "love" is used in this country regarding guns it is usually a pejorative term, indicating backwardness and ignorance as in "gun lover", or "they fearfully cling to their bibles and guns". To me, most of the guns I own evoke memories of pleasant time spent in the field with my father and brothers. Most of them were handed down to me, not only from my father, but from ancestors even further back. In that sense they are a heritage. Also in that sense, they are works of art. Few things in this world are hand made and fitted with such care, skill, and detail, with wood fitted to metal so that one cannot insert a razor blade, much less a slip of paper between the two.

And I think there are a couple of things operating here that changed our society at some point, and subsume those normal and safe feelings expressed above in a sea of angst and noise.

The first is the loss of the father in American families. Easy divorce, welfare regulations, women's rights, and changes in society's expectations for women all work to produce families without fathers. If fathers are present, the expectations, as portrayed in our sitcoms and documentaries are that he is either a bumbling, but benign clown, or an abusive monster. Nowhere in American society is a father portrayed as a loving authority figure for his children who is respected and loved in return. This results in young men who are narcissistic and know no limits to their behavior, and have no sense of obligation or duty, who expect to be taken care of by the women in their lives, as if they were perpetually the eldest child in the family (for my fellow Jungians, see "puer aeternis").

When I was finishing up my university work in psychology I wrote a senior thesis. I explored the influence of watching TV violence on people's general level of fear in society. Where no other researchers had ever found a statistically significant correlation, I did. What I did differently was that I compared specifically TV news watching activity to generalized fear of violence. In previous studies no one had ever been that specific about the kind of TV viewing people did. I found an overwhelming correlation. As TV news viewing rises, so does generalized fear of violence. In the past several years we have become a nation of news consumers. TV news now runs 24/7. Every drop of blood and bit of gore that can be reported on is reported on in continuous loops in order to sell advertising, with a new tidbit added every hour or two, to keep the urgency alive. Is it any wonder that people in America are fearful?

So we have self-centered young men growing up in a fear charged environment, who learn no sense of discipline or responsibility from their absent fathers. Is it any wonder that they covet power, project violence, and shoot each other on the streets?

Sorry Duane - that was more pointed at Whyte Cheddar
. I like you feel that it is my repsonsibility to vote. Thank you for doing so.

James Ruby

If I like how you vote or not isnt the issue. Its taking the responsibility for the results.
Something I am completely sure you are willing to do because you sound like you have integrity.
The characterization of the GOP candidate as potentially being worse than the incumbent is not something I can wrap my mind around. Barry flat out said during debates he wanted a AWB again. And since the 2A protects the rest, even IF I had been a Obama supporter I would of changed my vote right there. The 2A is the cornerstone of the constitution IMHO.
But all this political rehash is a waste of time now. We have the crap sandwich in front of us and now all thats important is figuring out how we come out on the other side of this with our rights and our Republic intact.

Well, as I said before, thankfully Romney didn't win or else we may have had an Assault Weapon Ban. Thankfully, we have Obama and he is protecting our gun rights.

Oh wait! Obama is in power and he is going to help introduce and try to pass an Assault Weapon Ban.. Wow..

At least Romney gave us lip service and worked with the NRA!! I seriously don't believe he would champion the liberal cause as it was not in alignment with his party line. I wish people could stop going on about how Romney doesn't deeply in his heart care about our gun rights. He is a politician and does what is best for his political career, not for what he believes in his heart. Obama, on the other hand, was always against our Constitutional rights. This was the man who says the economy is why Americans cling to their GUNS and RELIGION. Wow, shame on people who voted for Romney and cling onto guns and religion! Thankfully, Obama will help put an end to both our rights to own guns and probably our freedom of religion next!

So, to sum up, you'll stand up for yourself when the time for bloodshed is upon us. But not before. Right? That makes sense. Instead of standing up so it doesn't get to that point, you'll just take it in the behind like a good liberal that believes in the almighty, saving power of the government, until it's time to rebel against "martial law". Let me know if I've misinterpreted your words.....

You misrepresented them. You're welcome.

Well, I didn't SAY anything. I did however ASK something in my OP. I worded it poorly. I believe "gun culture" and "the glorification of gun related violent in the US as per the media" are not the same thing. That is what i clarified in my response.

Did you not read my response? I AGREE. YEP.

right on all points. I withdraw all my disdain. I read something else into what you said than what you clearly MEANT. -MY bad, not yours. -Best, Bill

I think perhaps your teachers should have spent less time beating you with sticks and more time teaching you how to read and write. I'm not a grammar Nazi, but sheesh!

I have disabilities, but not yet defined as a mental case.
As a human being I would just bet I have areas of practical experience and education I excel in you that you cannot approach.

My question is, why all this "we are gonna lose our guns and rights"? Why do we have the guns in the first place? Looks to me that simply they might get used for what the 2nd amendment intended them for, thats all. PROTIP...........Dont give them your guns. Problem solved.

2008 was the year jurnalism died in America! 2012 will be known as the begging of the END of the United States of America! That people would/could vote for this dirtbag a second time KNOWING the terrible job he had done the first time means that all Americans care about anymore is their own single small petty little existence! The United States is going to die because the majority of its people have become big government socialist commies!
