Does anyone else get the feeling that Clint Eastwood's "Gran Torino" was the source of their facts?

Other than that. this is utterly disappointing.. GTFO Obama. GTFO Brady Campaign.

You guys can say what you want, but now I'll feel much safer next time I'm up in NE Portland that I won't get shot by a gang member with an antique M1 Garand. That's really been a big fear of mine for a while.

Thanks, Obama!

Trouble is the average gang banger would try and pick one up and hurt himself because there heavy and would have to go to the emergency room.

This whole ordeal just proves that it is not about keeping guns out of the hands of criminals it is about keeping guns out of the hands of law abiding American citizens!

Average price for a Garand $800 to $1000
Average price for an AK.....$350 to $550

Which gun would a gang banger buy even if the price was equal?

Old news.

Gun Totin' Hippies » Update on the Garands and M1 Carbines From South Korea

I was contacted by someone from the ODCMP. It turns out the reason the USA will not allow South Korea to sell the M1 Garands and Carbines is that the US government already owns them. This has been going on for 5 years. The USA handed the rifles to South Korea through a lend-lease program. As such, they can not be sold. They can only be returned to the US government (which would then give them to the ODCMP to sell).

Sorry - semantics...
This is not a gun ban. A gun ban would block the sales of Garand and M1 rifles from all sources (or potentially all but private sales). This is a banned sale of a specific allotment of these weapons.

It's batbubblegume stupid; it accomplishes nothing positive, progressive or otherwise.

Do yourself and the country a favor. Take a liberal out shooting. Don't talk politics - save that for your third trip out and they've asked for advice on their own gun purchase. :)

Also, pinkhamr, I fail to see how the opening post for this thread or the topic have anything to do with your posted socialism image. People in elected office have made poor decisions for a long time that have had nothing to do with public or cooperative ownership of production and resource allocation. If every bad decision gets a reactionary socialist badge, the meaning is diluted.

Plus... this sort of thing has been par for the course for pretty much every presidential administration in the last 30 or even 40 years. Were they all socialists too?

This is just a CYA move by the administration. The US owns the guns and neither S. Korea or the US military can use them. It is a DISCRETIONARY decision on the US part whether to sell them or not to US citizens.

The problem would be IF any one of these guns were used in a crime, then it would be traced back to the Obama administration as the ones responsible and fingers would point.

In fact, I would bet that IF this happened, then many of the anti-Obama crown on this site would be the FIRST to point the finger at Obama....

(BTW: I disagree with this decision. I just understand one possible motivation for deciding this way)

Let's see. BO and his apostles in congress, hijacked the tarp program which was meant to buy up toxic mortgages (Bad Idea anyway) and used the money to buy control of banks, insurance companies...even car companies. They took over the student loan program so people have to crawl to them for student loans. The took over health care so we have to crawl to them for our medical care. BO has accomplished more to this end than his buddy in Venezuela. Sounds like socialism to me.
As for taking a liberal shooting, Some of the guys at work are libs. We are good friends...I just think they have some really bad ideas. We talk guns frequently. We know where each other stands and we go on with our lives. Actually, most of the liberal folks I know are a whole lot less liberal than they think they are. They don't like their taxes raised, or their gun rights trampled...they just vote for those who do.

I am barfing as I type this, thanks Trlsmn.

Do you agree with President SFB (spit for brains) on this, or do you disagree with him?
Simple yes or no question.
Which one is it.

**** NO!

M1 Garand's for peet's sake? You've got to be kidding me!

If they want to ban M1 Garand's, just think how ARs and AKs will fare at some point!

But we knew that all along. They're just waiting for the right time - politically. If M1 Garand's are on the hit list, you know that anything even remotely military or semi-auto will be on the hit-list.

But don't worry, we'll be able to keep our bolt-action rifles and double-barrel skeet guns.

If this doesn't show liberal gun-owners the true Obama agenda on guns, then I don't know what would.
