NY State Sheriff's Association Response to NY SAFE ACT:Cuomo, 1/23/13

This nicely drafted position of the Sheriff's Association points out some of the ACT's strong points, such as school safety, but notes its' weakness in being overly broad in defining "Assault Weapons" vis-a-vis depriving liberty of law abiding citizens, The letter notes that magazine size reduction will not effect gun violence. The letter notes the Sheriff's will not go door-to-door to confiscate weapons. They also go on to say they are to uphold the constitution. This is a very good read. It appears to have very good talking points against SB 346--Oregon's proposed magazine reduction ban.
