Yeah, I wrote about that yesterday:

In a blistering letter to President Obama yesterday, the National Rifle Association – which has about 90,000 members in Washington state – not only declined to participate in a “new discussion” about guns proposed by the president’s Sunday Op-Ed piece in a Tucson newspaper, but instead suggested that he “bring an immediate stop” to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ “Fast and Furious” gunrunning sting operation.

Please everyone go read the actual letter the NRA posted. It actually says the NRA will be glad to participate.

"In closing, we agree that gun owners in America are highly responsible. This is in large part due to the NRA's 140 years of dedication to promoting safe and responsible gun ownership, an effort on which we take a back seat to no one. We welcome any serious discussion on policies that focus on prosecuting criminals and fixing deficiencies in the mental health system. Any proposal to the contrary are not a legitimate approach to the issue."

Nice that in one paragraph they praise Obwaun then pretty much call him a liar in the last sentence.

So, the NRA DID NOT refuse to participate, they stated that there needed to be serious discussions on certain policies and NOT just grabbin guns.

What's to discuss? Give us back our real 2nd Amendment that you've STOLEN over the last 80 years!

They (Obama's so-called stakeholders) are going to sit down and talk, with or without the NRA. If the NRA does not participate, they have no ability to object at the time or make well-informed statements as to the direction of the discussion. To me it seems like the folks that complain about election results, but they never actually bother to vote. If you're going to change or stop something, it is easier to do it from the inside at the outset rather than complain about it afterwards.

If no firearms advocates bother to participate, the result will just end up being a statement that "Obama's select commission of people involved in the debate decided that all firearms should be banned". ... (Yeah, I know, hyperbole) It would be better to have NRA representatives there so that they can raise a stink every time the gun prohibitionists open their mouths.

Actually it is your headline and story that is playing with semantics not the NRA. They said the Obwan was a liar and they are willing to be there when the gov't agrees to quit talking gun grabbing only. From the Op-Ed story even you can see that the gov't has no intention of upholding the laws already in place.
