So, a guy who was either fired or had to resign from the NRA and wasn't happy about it, is an example of the NRA seeking gun control?

Read the whole story. Yes, this guy is a former employee. But his book doesn't paint a pretty picture either. And the NRA has shown more than once that they don't have a problem with "common sense" gun laws. I am a member but I don't just blindly support them either. Say what you will, but the NRA has NOT always had our best interests at heart.

I don't say that/can't say that.....I agree with everyone on everything.

And so....as in most instances....I make due with what I got.

Aloha, Mark

PS...compromise, compromise, compromise......

-- by Martin Nimbler (with my additions for firearms)

First they came for the Socialists Hi-cap magazines, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist had no Hi-cap magazines.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists Semi-automatic firearms, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist had no Semi-automatic firearms.

Then they came for the Jews shotguns, rifles and revolvers, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew did not own a shotgun, rifle or revolver.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me real weapons left to put up a fight with.

Then add, common sense and reasonable gun laws. So, who draws the lines? And who gets to say what's what? I guess SHE could be put in charge to decide what is reasonable and common sense.

Ask yourself, "Do they ever stop?" Rrrrright.....

I read the part where Wayne LaPierre is described as being a skilled lobbyist who has lead the president away from several anti-gun proposals that he was in favor of.

Perfection is the evil of the good.

like any organization

We've seen this over and over again with smaller non-profits. It's the nature of the beast. Non-profits are a stationary target for abuse and mismanagement. Because by their very nature, they are not in business to make a profit. So management sometimes is unqualified for the job or unable to resist temptations. Plus, it's sometimes difficult to find management people who are willing to step in and work for a non-profit. And when they are found, they often are less than the cream of the crop. Or they are volunteers who are looking for an angle to get into where they can manipulate funds. For the same reasons, financial oversight can be lax. Happens all the time in churches, gun clubs, charities, but it's not often seen on the level of the NRA. People get in there and get tempted. Is LaPierre really worth the kind of money he hauls in? I'm sure he thinks so, but you have to ask yourself, "Would he be making that kind of money anywhere else on the outside?" I guess his connections are worth something. Although he was a lobbyist before the NRA job, lots of his connections were acquired on the clock since he took over the NRA. If it wasn't for the NRA connection, he wouldn't know lots of those people.

That's the thing. As long as people need them, they can pretty much do whatever they want. Until some other group achieves the same level of hate from the left, the NRA gets my dollar.

I contribute to SAF, I think I get more bang for the buck there and my donation dollars are not unlimited. But I would never disparage anyone who chooses the NRA, i just wish they were better stewards of your money.

"A hunter since childhood and former Chicago options and derivatives trader, Mr. Powell says that the N.R.A. has fundamentally lost its way, abandoning "its roots as an organization focused on gun safety and education. ... Documents reviewed by The New York Times showed that weeks before Mr. Powell was fired, he was accused of improperly charging roughly $58,000 in personal expenses to the organization, a nonprofit, including airfare for himself or his family to Palm Beach, Fla., San Antonio, Phoenix and Dallas, among a number of other destinations — accusations that echo those made by the attorney general against Mr. LaPierre."

Sounds like a 1%er rich dude who only values the hunting aspect of firearms ownership, and a thief.

Before he got hired at the NRA, Josh Powell's business ventures had been served with 20 lawsuits totalling about $400,000 in money that was owed to various contractors and vendors.

What do Vladimir Putin and Wayne LaPierre have in common? They both have been in office a long time and nobody seems to be able to get rid of them.

Ackerman McQueen is the PR firm that has engaged with the NRA for over 20 years. The relationship is remarkable but they are almost intertwined.

I've been a member of the NRA for decades. Just an annual member, nothing special. But considering how badly mismanaged the NRA has been and how much money has been syphoned off has me upset. I may reconsider my membership and divert my modest contributions elsewhere. Like SAF, maybe?

Here we go again. SAF (and CCRKBA) appear to represent the interests of the 2A. But look closer, Alan Gottlieb who runs the outfit, also owns the companies that do all the printing, mailing and address labeling (direct mailing work) for SAF publications. So he personally is making a lot of money off of the non-profit side of the house. Yeah, I know, somebody's got to do it. But the stink of potential conflict of interest is still there. There is a history of financial wrangling and controversy related to SAF and Gottlieb. It's out there if you care to read about it, I didn't make this up.
