Check this out, @Joe Link and @Oregon Quartermaster! This is @Lone Wolf 's first AR build. Just in time to light it up by Christmas! Thanks for your help Quartermaster! He really benefited from your advise (I'm trusting it won't blow up :) )! And thank you, Joe! Nice lower! Proud to have that engraving on his first one! (I gave it to him for his 18th B. Day!). We're going to have a lot of fun with this! I'm sure more builds to come!

Wow, that looks fantastic! We need a range report ASAP :)

Oh yes. We will report!

This was so awesome! A great experience. However, I didn't think he would be spending all of his hard earned money on the parts so fast! I told him take your time and build it the way you want, but, since it's your first build, keep it simple. Well, he had his own ideas and came up with a really nice tool! Thanks for the start, Joe!

Thanks @eldbillbo and @StringerBell for the parts. And thank you @Joe Link for the great lower! I'm proud to rock the Northwest Firearms logo on my gun. Special thanks to my dad @Cogs for getting me the lower for my birthday and to @Oregon Quartermaster for steering me in the right direction and all the solid advice.

Absolutely, thank you for all your hard work!

As someone collecting parts for my first AR's, I made the mistake of adding up the total this evening :s0001:

I prefer simple AR's, and that thing is beautiful.

Some of you guys have already seen this in another thread...

@Joe Link If it helps, I think I have itemized costs in my Build Thread--the absolute cheapest way is to just get an Anderson lower and watch for Palmetto's "Freedom Rifle" kits in their Daily Deals, like 'til noon tomorrow they've got a near-M4gery just-add-lower bundled with ten Pmags for $400.
<broken link removed>
Just needs a 1:7 nitrided barrel instead of 1:8 stainless and you've basically got a Shake The Box semi service-carbine ready to load.

Sure, but where's the fun in that?? :D

Your build on the other hand...looks awesome!

 Thanks, Joe. Catch is, by the time it's assembled and loaded you could hump TWO complete M4's for the same weight, *including* bayonets and cleaning kits. Definitely a short-range bench/match, vehicle or Homestead D iron, *not* suitable for chasing Charlie or Hajji around on patrol. (The irony is, that heavy rear end is an exact copy of something a buddy serving in Israel had built for one of his troops, right down to the manufacturer part numbers and funny green color...)

Kits are no fun for wheelers-and-dealers or "small bites" guys, but if you need to do it quick and low-total-budget...

EDIT: Here's the upper I bought from CBC:

The Bipod/Grip/Light from FAB Defense, another fun toy from our IDF friends:

Flash Hider/Brake:

Why this brake?

At 0.56 lux, that's only a muzzle flash equivalent to a full moon on a clear night--negligibly brighter than an A2 in return for good brake performance and a better blast pattern, which will only be enhanced when budget allows me to add a blast-deflector collar like an Indian Creek BFD or Thordsen BD-180.

And just to taunt you jokers (and bump the thread for a little more exposure)... :p

Needs another hit of Dullcote over the trans-red, but... not bad for ten bucks on a couple rattlecans of model paint and a foot of masking tape, I'd say...

I've been wanting to get one for a while now, but as it's a Scary Firearm it has to have a transfer tax AND a 10% sales tax added on JUST BECAUSE REASONS. That takes a $99 chunk of aluminum and makes it into a $150 chunk of aluminum, and at that point I may as well just get a new gun. Anyone know of a place anywhere near Seattlestan that does non-exorbitant FFL transfers? Cheapest I can find is $35 and then tax is added. Thinking I better get one before they get banned...

Drive down to Vancouver and pick it up at @NWCustomFirearms's shop. No TX fee, just tax, which should be lower--bonus, lower tax rate on whatever parts you buy at the same time too.
