Now that I know how many people care about that place, I'll do my part to take some stuff back with me that I didn't take out every time I go. At the site where I shoot I found a porn magazine then when I walked further off to put more targets, I saw it spread out on a fallen tree like some one was "reading" it tucked around the corner... I have been going there a lot lately with my airguns and am hoping no one thinks I was the one who brought that there. I am unsure of if where I shoot is an issue or not. It's wide open, safe, etc but I shoot a .177 cal airgun modded to 12fpe (very low power) and it's spring piston so there's no co2 powerlets... I've seen a lot of those on the pulloffs soon as you get to the road which I will start picking up... I will have to look into the legality of where I shoot but if it turns out I can't shoot there with an airgun then I will probably just stop shooting all together, we're being regulated to death. I feel like I can't even drive to the middle of a forest to shoot a bb gun. On another note, I think signs stapled to trees with directions and instructions would be very helpful because even if you want to do the right thing, it's confusing driving down there. I've had a lot of people pull over and ask me about shooting out there.

I was there with mkwerx today. We showed up kinda late. Anyways we went down to lane one and cleaned it up pretty good. Just wondering if the two bags of trash and random metal plates were picked up? We didn't have room in the small Cruze we were in.

I picked up on the way out.

Also, thanks for coming to help out!

Lane 3 today....wasn't expecting this much snow!

Went up on Saturday with the kids. It was really nice and had tons of friendly people. When looking for a lane to share we bumped into one guy who was shooting behind the berm in an unsafe manner so we quickly left those two alone (I really hope they didn't get hurt or hurt anyone else). We did share a lane with another family and had a incredible time! They brought a large trash bag and brass bag which made cleanup a breeze. They were friendly and very safety conscious. Left some lead and brought home some debris and memories.

Are you talking about right past the turn off going up to the lanes? Was there 2 blue vehicles? Some one else showed up briefly but I was there by myself most of the day. I gave my opinion regarding where to shoot centerfire rifles. I was there shooting my air gun, it would be extremely hard to find a more safe place to shoot my airgun, if you are indeed referencing me.

The people I was referring to were shooting handguns when we were there and stated something about going to be running around shooting behind the berm to train for some "LE" qualifications. I didn't want to stay and discuss so just left that area right away

Okay sorry. That makes sense. I was getting paranoid because when I was there on the same day some one was shooting next to me and a car came up and turned around unusually fast and I just thought it was strange.

Remember these sites get busy on the weekends. Lots of traffic comes and goes. Stewardship goes a long way. Sharing lanes is awesome and can lead to great times, but if you see something shady, please do not hesitate to report it here. If you see something illegal please, if able, get license plates and report them to local law enforcement.

Our discussions with ODF, in Tillamook State Forest, about developing new shooting lanes in the Wolf Creek area have led us to an important decision prior to moving forward. That decision is to meet with a professional range development consultant for his insights and recommendations. We agree with ODF that it is best we are well prepared and as aware as possible of the concerns and effects of what we propose to do. Therefore, we've hired a consultant who was recommended to us by the Oregon Association of Shooting Ranges, ODFW and other NRA members. He will be spending a full day of his time to review the existing lanes at North Fork Wolf Creek Lanes and looking over the new proposed lanes. His report will be invaluable to us as we proceed to provide quality recreation in target shooting on public land.

As it stands right now, The Oregon Department of Forestry has our backs and is about to cover the full amount of the consolation charge which is $1500. We are scheduled to meet mid May. They had hopes for the target shooting community to step up and help cover some of that charge, however, Trash No Land does not have the funds available. I promised I would put out the word and see if we could help.

I think it is reasonable to offer that we cover half that amount, $750. (I think we could have raised enough if the weather hadn't been so threatening when we held our First Annual Fundraiser Event this past Feb).

So, I'm asking for contributions to this cause. I know we will learn a great deal about developing public shooting ranges, the ramifications involved, the resistance we may be up against and the environmental concerns we'll need to overcome. Although it may not be a requirement to proceed, it is the smart thing to do. Especially when it comes to applying for a grant(s) to implement and complete the project. We need facts and data to support our direction and this information will help us in that department.

If you can help, please do so at: PayPal Donate to Trash No Land You don't have to have a PayPal account to donate. You may use your credit/debit card. Be sure to leave a note designating these funds to the Range Development Fund.

If a check is best for you, send me a Private Message and I'll get you the mailing address.

I feel, as does ODF, it is important they see shooter support for more shooting lanes in Tillamook State Forest. We can see the value of adding more lanes, as evidenced by the popularity of the current lanes, but it is important we show our financial support to help develop more. This is one way we can show that support and encourage them to move forward in a positive direction.

Please help us show that we want and value more shooting lanes on the Tillamook.

Thank you all,

Bill Cogley

I support development of a shooting range for sure. I see it as a great way for non locals or locals who dont want hassle to go out and shoot in a safe and determined spot. But I am slightly confused. Are people allowed to shoot guns on public land if in a forest and the spot is open and logical? Does it have to be a regulation shooting lane? Hypothetically If some one were to park on a side road out of the way, hike out to a semi desolate area and put up a tent and shoot in that area or is that frowned upon in Tillamook State Forest?

No, Alan, it's not a regulated range, just a nice place to shoot in the woods. The only regulations are the state rules for shooting on public land. Unmanned and dependant on users to maintain.

You may still shoot where you wish, as long as it's in compliance with the rules, but it's much nicer to use these improved lanes. (Perhaps I shouldn't use the term Range).

Okay thank you. I will check those rules. I think you nailed it, I was thinking range and not a less formal shooting lane, makes a lot more sense to me now. I was just confused because I shoot my airguns out away from the lanes solely because I feel that I am wasting a lane for a rifle shooter when I can just find an otherwise suitable spot for an airgun considering I can spend all day out there. I like the shooting lanes for rifles and pistols though and for several reasons. I just have always felt anxious/worried when I shoot away from any designated spots, because I haven't checked for clarification before. Lately since I've discovered this forum and noticed how many people contribute, I've been making sure to take home more then I leave with. At least 1 small bag of trash per visit. Thanks again for the info and clarification.

This meeting is happening in 2 1/2 weeks. We have only one donation of $5.00 to help ODF cover the cost. I'm not feeling the support for our efforts and a little embarrassed to report this to ODF. Can you help?

Wow... Sorry @Cogs - Meant to get to this earlier. Y'all do a great job, and I missed the Earth Day Clean up this year.

I've added to the coffers. Let's see if we can get more people to contribute.
