Capped turrets are turrets (adjustment knobs) that are contained under screw-on caps. Unscrew the caps, make your adjustments, put the caps back on. They are ideal for hunting and combat applications where dialing elevation is generally not going to be necessary or possible and where bumping the turrets in transit might inadvertently move your zero. For pure target shooters exposed turrets are ideal because they have all the time in the world to dial dope and won't bump them on brush or other dudes. A zero-stop feature is a useful third option giving the benefits of both styles.
