Up here in Oregon, MSRP on that truck is more like $25-30k. Maybe the lawyer is taking a small percentage on this settlement, too.

you can figure, if the case was taken on contingency, the attorney can bill for up to 30% of any winnings.

Great, make them pay taxes on the reimbursement for possessions the LAPD destroyed. /sarc

Game show taxes are high enough. Then when they use the money and actually buy a new truck, they have to pay KA sales tax on it as well.
Kalifornia is a screwed up as it gets.
And the lawyer representing the women isn't much better.

I hope that earthquake gets here soon.

The settlement is only for the truck, not the injuries they sustained. At least that is what the article states. I would expect that settlement to be in the millions.

People don't read anymore. Just look at the posts in this thread. All based on an article they didn't read.

The 40k is only for the truck and does not include any other liability lawsuits that will be filed. I heard on the radio the cash is tax free so there won't be any taxes due on it.

Anytime you file a 1099 you will be taxed. On 40K the tax will be at least 28%.

They're settling ridiculously cheap. The Physical pain was worth at least the $40G's. The emotional trauma of it all is worth 10X's that amount.

Ya the paper lady rolled over for a nickel.

Folks like to speak with authority about things they know nothing about. Stop bad mouthing the president and vice president, they are just acting like lots of folks on this board.

Even after the errors are pointed out to them
