The August, 2018 edition of the American Rifleman has a good article on the Model 1917 Enfield rifle. It is a good read that details the history of the Model 1917, the reasons for adoption, and the problems with production of a rifle that performed well in battle and became a popular hunting rifle after it's service life was over.

It also details an example of the New York Times' propensity to mislead the reader. On page 46, paragraph two reads:

"There was a perception by some that the newly adopted rifle was not suitable for use by our military. As an example of that mindset, there was an article published in the New York Times titled, "Why our forces in France must use an inferior rifle." The article stated a number of misleading, if not outright false, "facts" regarding the Enfield. The magazine Arms and the Man, predecessor to The American Rifleman, published an article that refuted the New York Times' flawed piece and detailed the valid reasons for the adoption of the Model 1917 rifle."

One Hundred Years Later they are still misleading their readers, especially about guns!
