The "crime busting" Sullivan Act was put into place in 1911.
"The Sullivan Act was a gun control law in New York state that took effect in 1911.[1][2] The NY state law requires licenses for New Yorkers to possess firearms small enough to be concealed. Private possession of such firearms without a license was a misdemeanor, and carrying them in public is a felony. The law was the subject of controversy regarding both its selective enforcement[3] and the licensing bribery schemes it enabled.[4] The act was named for its primary legislative sponsor, state senator Timothy Sullivan, a Tammany Hall Democrat."
As we see, it had nothing to do with crime - in fact created a new class of criminal. Since then, NY crime has escalated with each new law. What to draw from this except that gun-specific laws create crime. And what to draw from that except that government desires an unarmed populace.

Government is like cancer. It grows. It does not shrink unless drastic measures force it to shrink. Unchecked, government will dominate the host and eventually, as in the U.S.S.R., will kill the host and collapse from its own weight.

It's actually excellent news as California is attempting to implement the same type of insanity where they make the entire state a sensitive area and they replace the "good cause" requirement with proof of "good moral character." It's complete and utter bullcrap. But it's great that a judge has already struck this down in New York. And any decision that helps reinforce Bruen is a good thing!

Where, exactly, did politicians come up with the concept of "good moral character"?

As if politicians are in any position to judge "good moral character." Most of these idiots are morally bankrupt.

In all seriousness, in California, being of good moral character is actually written into the state CCW law/requirements. The tyrants that administer the dispensing of CCW permits have subsequently taken it upon themselves to interpret that requirement in numerous ways...such as requiring written references from three sources including a current or past relationship, attesting to the fact that you are of good moral character. It's insane. I have no idea where New York gets its requirement from.
