. You don't! You have no idea what it's like to live in NYC. Those people have been brain washed since the early 1900s.

So what you are saying is they can't think for themselves.
And I'm supposed to give a rats A$$ about them because of this?
TO HE!! with all of them on the east coast. They let the guidos tell them whats going to happen and don't rise up to make a change.
You don't like our attitude about the east coast and NYC or state? Go back and live with Bloomberg's sheeple

As far as the guy getting arrested, too bad, If you travel to another state, you had better know the laws. The vet got arrested for carrying, the med student did too.
They should have known, like most kids in china, that you can't carry a hand gun in that state.
It may be wrong and against the 2A but I can't feel sorry for someone who doesn't look up the laws of the state they are going to visit.

It's called personal responsibility.

Hey, Jg, you can apologize for your strong wording, but you won't get much sympathy from this part of the country. What we see is basically Bloomberg and his wallet trying to take away freedoms.
Heck, he travels the country trying to do just that.
I can understand part of your defensiveness, because Portland and Eugene don't think like the rest of the state, but contain most of the voters. So, Oregon vs. 2 cities is like the NY vs NYC. And around here NYC isn't a stellar pupil...
But do you call everyone who differs in opinion from you an idiot? Ya might want to re-think that.

One correction JG . . . There is no such thing as a democratic democrat.
the terms are mutually exclusive!

Another correction . . . We do not have it so good here . . . Why?? Because
the democrats have a strangle hold on state and most local governments.

I was going to ignore this thread for the future, but I felt I needed to respond for the last time.
And sensing the atmosphere here I'm sure someone will make a snide remark.
I don't recall calling everyone here an idiot. Just one person because of his foul mouth.
I do disagree and have opinions of people that write:
"we don't need them" "they're brain dead" "they're a turd whirl" etc.
Maybe they should rethink what they wrote

Some of the posts were civil and wondering.
But after that. the bashing started. Most everybody started the bad mouthing without knowing what goes on N.Y.
But woe be to anyone that disagrees.

It seems perfectly acceptable here for someone to be insulting by writing:
"The people voting these folks in in NY must be absolutely brain dead. They clearly have no understanding, nor desire to understand, why and how this country was founded."

Doesn't he realize N.Y. was one of the founders ? When N.Y drew up their first constitution some time back in 1777, there was no Bill of Rights or a constitution yet. That happened about 10, 12 yrs. later

And then he wonders:
"What I don't get is how someone hasn't brought a federal case against the state for violation of second amendment rights?"

In most instances NY doesn't prevent people from owning firearms. It sets rules like registrations, capacities, types, ordeals etc. All legal per judge's rulings of the U.S. constitution.

When I lived back in NYC it took me 9 months and 2 day off from work just to apply for a 3 handgun maximum permit. Plus a day off each time I bought one, to take down to police headquarters to be examined. Now it's worse but legal.

They don't have any 2A state rights. But I don't think it matters. Ammo ,mags, capacity etc. aren't mentioned in the constitution. IMHO this part could happen here.
But those so called brain dead people are fighting for their rights
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Or someone to be insulting by writing that N.Y. is a turd and then writes me to say:
"If NYC is so great, STFU and move back there."

I've probably been living here longer than he's been alive.

He mentions elected official as "communist traitors" like Mario Cuomo as governor and Bloomberg. He needs to get his facts straight. Mario Cuomo isn't the governor, and Bloomberg isn't the mayor.
What's his problem ? Anybody that has a different view point from his is a communist?

And he tries to explain to me that OR. doesn't have a 2A, it has an article I,section 27 Out of habit I call everything the 2A. IMHO, most everything came to be because of the 2A.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Or the guy that wrote:
"They need us, we don't need them."

When I called him arrogant
He responded:
"Right out of the liberal playbook. If you don't have an argument, resort to name-calling."

How original! No ! He doesn't have an argument because he doesn't know anything to base his original comment on. Or he would have wrote it
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
And this latest lecture:
"As far as the guy getting arrested, too bad, If you travel to another state, you had better know the laws. The vet got arrested for carrying, the med student did too.
They should have known, like most kids in china, that you can't carry a hand gun in that state.

Another "holier then thou" attitude
In my opinion that's another post from someone that doesn't know anything about what goes on. Just likes to hear himself talk.

People get arrested while being legal just because the authorities don't understand the laws themselves, so they lock people up and let the courts work it out. Laws pop up without the vote of the people.

It almost happened to me a few months ago. And I do know the laws! We were coming back via JFK. I had 2 boxes of 30-30s to bring back. Per TSA instructions, I declared them at check in. Clerk asks me to wait. Next thing that happened was 2 Port authority cops show up to arrest me. I explained that I had talked with TSA and it was legal to transport the ammo. They weren't hearing it. A TSA agent showed up and told them I was legal. He had to sign a some paperwork before they'd release me.

We have that same, let the courts decide attitude at PDX. A state rep. wrote to the port authority police chief that it was legal to c.c. in the terminal. Chief wrote back and said "I'll still arrest them, and then they can have their day in court"
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
And you write:
"but you won't get much sympathy from this part of the country. What we see is basically Bloomberg and his wallet trying to take away freedoms.
Heck, he travels the country trying to do just that."

I don't get it. What does that have to do with the people of N.Y.
Are you blaming N.Y. for him? They didn't create him.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are just a few of the threads I found offensive.
It's really easier to bash something you don't know anything about, than to have a serious discussion based on facts.
And tell me what happened to tolerance for others that want the same rights as we have. Or is it more fun to bad mouth what you don't understand and feel superior about it ?

The problem there, is the gun owners are outnumbered by the anti gunners, but they're not brain dead,or turds, they're fighting
I've lived here since 1977 and I've probably been to more rallies then most of the others here, or before they were born, and I know about the Portland, college town liberal mentality. But it seems to me there are liberals & democrats here that are pro gun. Which is fortunate for us, because IRC it only takes a simple majority vote to remove an article from the OR. Bill of Rights. I may be wrong.

I would hope for some respect for N.Y. not this "our sh*t don't stink, we're superior to them" attitude

Where did all these know it all, law scholars in this discussion, come from ?
People should get there facts straight before they write. All I've read here are vicious opinions and remarks, with nothing based on fact.
Because of this some of you sound foolish to me, but to each other you must look and feel like world travelers.

'I was fortunate enough to be able to get out of N.Y."

If it is your home state, why is your home not in New York? Are you only a temporary resident of Oregon or is Oregon you home and therefor your home state.

I worded that wrong. What I meant was I was born and raised NYC. And moved to OR. in 1977.
I still have family there and I keep up with politics there. Mostly firearms related.

HI
You say "We do not have it so good here"
When we moved here we thought we went to heaven.

I agree that the democrats run things. But there seems to be a partisan opinion on the right to own. Or else we would have lost some rights by votes.
IIRC it only takes a simple majority vote to remove an article from the OR. Bill of Rights. I could be wrong!
I believe Oregon is a gun culture, with dem. and rep.

Southern NYS now isn't.
Things were barbaric in NYC in the late 19th early 20th century. Then in 1911 some a-hole named Timothy Sullivan created the Sullivan act:

"The Sullivan Act is a gun control law in New York State. Upon first passage, the Sullivan Act required licenses for New Yorkers to possess firearms small enough to be concealed. Possession of such firearms without a license was a misdemeanor, and carrying them was a felony. The possession or carrying of weapons such as brass knuckles, sandbags, blackjacks, bludgeons or bombs was a felony, as was possessing or carrying a dagger, "dangerous knife" or razor "with intent to use the same unlawfully". Named for its primary legislative sponsor, state senator Timothy Sullivan, a notoriously corrupt Tammany Hall politician, it dates to 1911, and is still in force, making it one of the older existing gun control laws in the United States."
He died of syphilis, unfortunately not soon enough. When I was growing up, B.B. guns were outlawed in the city, even sling shots.
People didn't care because everything came from stores and there was no place to shoot. You don't miss what you don't have.
And from there it keeps getting worse.

The NYS constitution has been rewritten 3 times the latest in 1938 and the right to bear arms was never included. The people probably didn't even know what was going on.

I always wondered: There's supposed to be about 3 million people or is it voters in OR. ?
1 Million people in the metro area mostly democrats. Where are all the conservatives. Every time I speak to someone before or after an election they mostly all swear they voted conservative

.

The Conservatives are all east of the Cascades, but the vote in Oregon is carried by the greater population, which is west of the Cascades, hence we end up with a left leaning state and politics. And yet another go 'round with Kitzhaber...

Jg I can respect the fact that you feel some affinity with the peoples of NY and their plight in dealing with the anti-gunners at the local and state levels. I think we would all like to see a more gun friendly environment there, one that is in line with the constitution of the US. It will be a hard won victory when it comes (still trying out this whole optimism thing).

I do notice though sir that you have gotten your back up quite a bit over criticism that has been leveled at the State of NY and NYC as well as general criticism of the citizenry for continuing to elect the people they have.

I am originally from Maryland. A state that could not have fallen over itself fast enough to model itself after NY's anti gun stance. I moved out of the state approx. 20 years ago. I will gleefully join in any criticism people want to levy against Maryland. I am not responsible for the state of affairs there. I voted with my feet and left. I think some criticism of NY is quite founded, just as it would be against MA, CT, IL, CA & MD. I also do not take the criticism of Maryland personally. In Maryland I blame the people for continuing to elect more and more anti-gun liberals to the legislature and the governors office. Maryland would not have gone the way it did had people reacted better to protecting the constitutional rights of Joe and Jane Citizen. The same is true for NY. The people of NY have had a long history of bringing upon the state and national stage the likes of Bloomberg, Schumer, the Cuomos and many more classics.

You said the NYS constitution has been rewritten 3 times and that the right to bear arms was never included. Shame on the peoples of NY. But in the end who cares. The bloody Bill of Rights guarantees your right to keep and bear arms. Enumeration in the state constitution is simply icing on the cake.

Sir people are going to do what they feel they have to do. Personally I do not visit NY, I do not purchase guns from sellers in NY. Consider them my personal economic sanctions against the state. Just like what the US does against a number of countries around the world. I am sure there are some good people somewhere in NY just as I am sure there are good people in all of the countries subject to US trade embargoes. But when you can't vote with your feet, vote with your wallet. In the end I encourage you to not take it so personally. The comments about NY are not a personal attack on you or the good peoples of that state, but rather upon the state, its policies and the plurality of people that support it or simply don't vote.

Just my opinion. Thanks.

Thanks for an level headed even tempered response
I agree that I did get my back up over remarks a little to much.
Normally I would have kept my head and possibly contribute to an intelligent discussion, and do some bad mouthing myself. With examples.

But it was the language used to describe the people that set me off.
brain dead, turd whirls, we don't need them, they need us etc. ?
If they needed to vent do it against the state, not the people that are caught in this mess.
IMO this was a case of most of the posters no knowing the facts or the score, just wanting to be seen.

I thought the "state" is the "people" since they are elected by the people. So how can you really differentiate? The people that you get so worked up over continue to vote in people who want to take their Constitutionally-guaranteed freedoms. The "people" are the "state" and are therefore screwing themselves.

When I said we don't need them, I wasn't referring to New Yorkers, but to the socialists and statists who are trying to take our guns. I see the socialists as a bunch of twerps who don't typically have the skills to do anything useful or productive, but instead want to be in charge of those who do.

It's not about Republicans vs Democrats, either, although there certainly is an imbalance along those lines.

It's about the productive people, Republican or Democrat, who work hard to make a living for themselves and their families; the folks who are honest and always rally during a catastrophe; versus the people who are always on the take, who have this overwhelming sense of entitlement, about the highly educated in subjects of marginal utility with no common sense who want to call the shots and to be Big Brother to the working class.

They desperately need us, we don't need them. It's the working class who dream of balkanizing into two or more countries; we want to (trash)can the parasites and their collective burden. It's the socialists who are terrified of the prospect of two countries, where each country can compete on its own terms and be compared with its results. The socialists will be left with all the parasites with nobody to do the work. The socialists can't compete: that's why they want to be in charge of people who can. It's the socialists who want to disarm us to entrench their topdown control.

Sorry if you thought I was referring to the citizens of New York.

Thanks. But I also got carried away, and I apologize for that.

I found this article, and unfortunately I'm gonna believe is pretty accurate. Da*n, I hope I'm wrong. It seems to me it's history repeating itself. When I lived back there the votes of the antis outnumbered the pros. Even when ordinances were passed without taking them to the people, we weren't strong enough in numbers to protest. In my time there, even the NRA or any state firearms groups never really had any influence. They just held our hands and said "don't worry, be happy"
http://www.legislativegazette.com/A...shows-NYers-support-SAFE-Act-by-twotoone.html

IMO even if there were to be 100% votes of 2A believers for a topic they would always be out numbered by the anti gun rights group. The antis don't miss what the never had.
If you look at the past governors of NYS and the mayors of NYC. whether they were reps. or dems. gun rights people never had a friend. Even Julianni wasn't a friend. It a product of their environment thing. Who ever they try to vote in needs to run on other issues that the antis like. Mostly share the wealth things, or government will take care of us things. There are other things more important to NYers then guns.
IMHO, they're in a world of hurt. Even N.J. will be with a republican Governor like Chris Christi. Again I hope I'm wrong

I want to know how in every other part of the country, airports are federal jurisdiction........hence the TSA and all those crazy invasions of privacy, etc.- but apparently this is not so when passing through new york? Is something missing from this news story, or is new york snagging people passing through on federal transit and sticking them with state law?

The trouble always occurs when leaving the secured area of the airport.

Once you pass through screening, you are in the "international" portion of the airport, which is all federal. Leave the secured area, though, and you are on state soil and subject to state laws. Everyone who is arrested on state charges has either left the secured area, or is attempting to enter it with a firearm prohibited on the state soil they inhabit at that point.

Be careful what you say about New Yorkers . . . Remember that Wyden, The Oregon senator from New York, lives there with his chickie, wife, whatever.
