The Galil ranks up there with the Valmet at the top of quality for Kalashnikov action rifles, but can be problematic for parts.

I had two Valmets (a para that was very similar to the Galil and a long heavy barrel with bipod and nice wood furniture - both in .308) and sold them because mags were $150 each during the assault rifle ban era, not to mention trying to find parts.

Not sure what mags the Galils take, but probably easier to get than Valmet .308 mags.

They both are great rifles, but do your research on these issues before plopping down the money.

Mine came with a modified M14 magazine as that is what IMI did at first before making their own, THOSE are indeed expensive if you can find them. I make my own from M14 mags and spot welded lugs that I hand carved from steel flat-stock that I patterened off the one mag it came with. I scored some 25rnd M14 mags, but haven't gotten around to doing the voodoo on them... yet.
