Hey guys and gals. I moved to Portland about a year and a half ago. I have an AR-15 and would like to know where I can go shoot it. I don't really want to get a membership at a range. Plus my AR shoots 7.62x39 and I just get the cheap steel case stuff to plink with and a lot of ranges don't allow it.

Just looking for 50-100y to plink with my red dot.

Looking in a 30 minute proximity of Portland.

    Thank You!

Hey there- welcome to P-town. You will probably need to go a little farther than 30 minutes, unless you live in far east Mult. Co.

Avoid the temptation to shoot in the hills above Scappoose.

My suggestion is to try the areas outside Estacada. Make sure you pick up all of your casings and garbage, and be safe. Make sure you have fun, too.

Shooting 100 yards safely on public land requires a quarry or specific berm-like geologic formation. You need to prevent any hikers, foragers, etc entering your horizon of fire. The only safe places for that are beyond 30 minutes of Portland.

Everyone pays lip service to the 4th rule... but it often gets ignored in the woods:
