Trophy points are points users receive for accomplishing certain tasks around the site. These are the default settings, we'll be modifying it at some point.

I think the points are designed to encourage people to participate in the site and add valuable content. Over a period of time your points will build up and then other members, especially new members can sort of gauge who has been around awhile and act accordingly.
