Hi guys. Just joined, but I've had my eye on the RPR in .308 for a while as a pipedream firearm. Only saw them on gunbroker, but were running about $1200-$1300. I put a call in to Rich's Gun Shop (in Donald, Oregon, I think) and he quoted me $990. Didn't have one in, but expected shipment per the Ruger rep sometime around the end of the month. Might be worth a check.

Thanks for the tip!

This does look like a very nice rifle. Ruger has come a long was since Bill passed on. They are definitely listening to the market and bringing a lot of really nice weapons to the table. Good for them.

Well, if the price is prohibitive, Bi-Mart is selling the Ruger American Rifle for $329.97 in a variety of caliber options. I know it's not as "sexy looking", but my .308 can do -MOA if you do your part, and that's using 150gr Remington Core-Lokt.

;)

I got one a those inexpensive adjustable fore grips for mine. Put it on the butt stock rail. Folds up or down with a push button and makes a good wrest or hand grip at the rear.

So does anybody actually own a Ruger Precision Rifle?

If not, is anybody willing to pay $1300 retail price for one if they saw it on a store shelf?

I hear gun shops are willing to take your $ promising to get you one, but who knows when you'll actually get it.

They are here in yUK by the truckload. Well, lots of them are being delivered this last week in all three calibres. General impression is VERY favourable, with more than one specialist builder looking concerned.

I've seen them available at least three times in 308 and 243 for under a grand. I'm waiting for a 7mm-08.

And yes people actually own them.

7mm-08 would be exceptional. It probably isn't going to happen, but I'd really like to see it in a long action.

What is special about this rifle is that the chassis, action and barrel are all fully integrated and the force from recoil is transmitted in a straight line to the shooter's shoulder. The recoil from any of the standard Mouser based actions is off center which is why the barrel rises when you fore them. The RPS eliminates this by design. For hunting it's not an issue, but for precision shooting this looks to me like an edge.
