New Ruger Mini 30 owner

Just picked up a nice stainless Mini 30. My first range session went well,other than what appeared to be a few light primer strikes on the Golden Tiger steel ammo I was using. I have heard these guns dont like steel ammo. Is this the truth, or one of those Internet myths? I like the gun but with ammo availability being what it is I need to be able to run the cheap stuff. Any tips, tricks or advice from fellow Mini 30 owners would be appreciated!

My friend has one and has the same problem, I think some ammo has harder primers than others. I sold him some of my brass cased surplus Yugo and that worked like a champ, Black box Wolf was ok too.
