I used to use 45 Super and 450 SMC back when I only had 2 handguns. (Sig P220SAO and Para Ordnance 1911). A 24lb recoil spring ran them as well as my defensive ammo just fine in the PO.
I converted my Smith 4506 to 45 Super
Sprinco built a recoil managment system for it
it will still shoot 45 ACP for range work
have a couple boxes of Underwood 185gn 45 Super for serious work, but a little overkill for our home defense needs

well, if you have that opinion, guess I'll just load up our Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum with it's 5.5" bbl
Black Hills Ammo has a new solid copper .44 Mag delivering 846 ft/lbs of energy
if that doesn't work, fall back 100 yrds and call in an air strike with Snake and Nape!!!
That's the spirit!

I do like the 1911 "platform" but at my place of residence, we have a few different options. I am not going to get into detail but higher capacity firearms are laying around because you never know if there will be multiple people that need to be ventilated. Pistols and long guns with capacity over 15 rounds are always on standby….. accept the Mossberg 590, that's a 5+1 and those magnum slugs will put a nice hole in the bad guy to stop the threat.

we have other options, but my son prefers the 1911, which he now keeps in his room
I have this nice Mossberg Shockwave at the foot of the bed, but don't keep it loaded
