In prepping for our impending move to Texas, the wifey & I were helping my mother in law (she's coming with) clean out her storage unit today. When we got there she tells me "oh, there's a few old guns in the corner for you" - so I load up the little L-cart with the totes and boxes then grab the "old guns" she's giving me for a quick glance, and to add to the stack.

What came home?

A Smith-Corona 03-A3
A Type-99 with in tact 'mum
And a JC Higgins 16 GA bolt action shotgun

They have lived in the corner of the storage unit since 1997. There was a good deal of surface rust. Upon getting them home I gave them a good coat of oil, then a gentle scrub with a nylon brush, and wipe down with a rag to let the oil soak in. I checked the bores of the rifles - no pitting! Then I ran a bore brush thru a few times each, followed up by oily patches. Letting the oil soak in before I give them another scrub and get more aggressive with the harsher rust spots.

Some eye candy...

These rifles belonged to my MIL's father, who was a WW2 vet.
