Thanks for the replies about the Sig 1911's. I've been wondering about that for a while.

On the 70 vs 80 question, can you simply remove the 80-series parts and replace with 70-series if you don't want the firing-pin safety? Seems like you would remove the firing pin plunger and spring from the slide, change the extractor to a 70-series style, and remove the firing pin plunger lever from the frame.

Actually, I don't think you would even need to change the extractor.

I checked out the Dan Wessons on GB and they all seemed to hover around 1,700$ which is a tad more then Id like to spend, although I was checking out a Colt Special combat government that was around that price.

both would be a pleasure to own. I used to despise Colt but after buying a Gold Cup recently I've had a change of heart. the old Government Model I had rattled like a baby toy, but my GC isn't anything like that. Sig also makes a nice 1911 for the money.

I have heard Sigs are good but I really wanted one of the American companies. I know the frame on the TRP is made in Brazil but eh. I think I will head up to Keiths next week and see what he has in stock.

I was leaning tward the TRP but I always wanted a Colt. I Held both at the gun show and I know its hard to compare a used gun to a new one, all the Colts had a loose slide with quite a bit of play in them. Is that common?

Contrary to popular belief, in the big overall picture of accuracy, a tight slide to frame fit does little compared to other parts in the equation.

As long as the barrel is of good quality, fitted properly, have a good quality fitted barrel bushing and slide stop...you're going to get about as good accuracy as anything around.

So to put it layman's terms...a tight slide to frame fit doesn't mean a 1911 that will swipe the wings off of flies at 25 yards. So don't make it a priority in your overall decision with which model to choose.

Went to Kieths today and got to fondle some super nice 1911s. The had Wilsons, Nighthawk, Ed brown, plus the normal Kimber, SA and a few colts. I will tell you I almost walked out of there with an Ed brown but it was past my self imposed limit. The one thing they didn't have was a Dan Wesson Valor and I think thats what I am going to go with. I was able to check out the specialist and it was super nice but I can't get past the rail.

I've got a couple of Valors and they are absolutely cracking guns...
I've got a couple of Browns too and the IMHO the Wessons are every bit as good.

Valor top, Brown Exec at the bottom...

As ATC said above, sign up at Buds and also <broken link removed>, both tend to have better prices than you'd find locally.

I had not heard of Jet Guns. Good prices although they are sold out of Dan wessons :s0112: Like about everyone else. KGC had a SS one the night before I went to Keiths. As soon as I got back in the car, I got on my phone and they were sold out as well.
