I agree with the poster that mentioned beavertails. Sure you can add one later, but if you can stretch to it, it's probably worth it. Likewise if you can find one that has either Novak or Novak cuts in the slide, it opens up a world of affordable upgrades down the road.
Check out offerings from ATI too. Most of them are under $600, mant have beavertails, extended thumb safeties and Novak cut dovetails so changing out sights later is easier.
The STI spartan and hideously billboarded, but other very nice, Desert Eagle 1911 both come in at about $650.....
I'm never impressed but a person's gun, rather what they can accomplish with it.....
