Now try one of the older CZ75 pistols....................

tac

Flashpan,
I can't help with an older CZ, but I can with a newer one.
I just picked up a P-07...9mm, mid-size but 17+1 (with factory +2 bases), terrific shooter.
I'm also a TCGC member, action-range certified.
You're more than welcome to meet me there sometime to try out the CZ...
I'm a big Glock guy but I'm loving this gun.
John

I have Sig p229 and a Sig320 compact.

To my hand, they feel about the same, and I like both of them. I did a side/side comparison at Tri-County after buying the 320. I actually shot the 320 better on its first outing than I did my 229, which I've had for a long time. Used different distances and ammos (although the same for each 'round' of head to head) just to see. I shot the 320 better.

As a couple others have mentioned, go to a gunshow and try them out in your hand.

On my list for striker fired guns when I have some $$ to look at are:
HK-VP9 / VP-40
Ruger American (9mm)
Ruger SR-9
Canik TP
Glock 19 / 23 (although I did not get along with a G22, the 19 may be different)
Walther PPQ (although I'm lukewarm on them after using a P99)
FNS (9mm)
S&W M&P (9mm)

I did try the Ruger American, just a magazine's worth for me and another for the Warden, we both thought it to be a good gun that had no compelling reason to switch, If it were my first gun, or I did not already have a good 9MM then it would move up the list, the only other two I can comment on are the Glock and S&W. I like the full size 17 over the 22 and especially the 19/23 platform. That 17 was the Warden's choice even though she has small hands. On the S&W you did mention the M&P specifically and that is a good choice, but don't get drawn in by the SD series look-a-likes as they might have similar ergonomics but the SD's are based on the old, much vilified, Sigma.
Two you might include in your search are The Springfield XD9 Mod 2 in either the 4.0 inch Service model or the 5.0 inch Tactical.
Some are easier to carry concealed that others but I expect the 320 fits that niche for you.

One thing about the Glocks though is the huge amount of aftermarket everything. If you want to change sights, or anything else, there is a ton of stuff out there. The other guns have a decent market for parts too, but I don't think any come close to the Glocks.

Agree. However, if you decide on XD/XDM these guys have a fair amount of stuff to keep you busy: Springer Precision :: The XD Specialists

Bonus: they're in Bend!

Well I started this thread and yesterday I shot the new pistol. I am certain without the advice and comments, not to mention those members who were kind enough to let me try a huge variety, I probably would have guessed wrong. I thought I would at first end up with a Springfield or Walther but the HK-VP9 was the winner for me...it just points and handles naturally in my hands. If anyone wants to shoot it at TCGC, I'm happy to return the favors. Regards

Thanks for the update!!!

So many of these theads fizzle out:rolleyes:.

I'm sure someone will say I'm so wrong, but I haven't really seen any gun that is truly bad enough for me to want to stop anyone buying it. Every gun has its own style. I actually suggest you choose one by your chemistry and start from there.

For me, I ended up getting HK VP9, SIG P226, SIG P229, and even the MPX, a sub mg. Everything is stock parts - no upgrade or modification of whatsoever, but I am a SIG sucker.... lol

If I'm forced to sell one for whatever reason? I would have a very hard time to decide which one to go. I would rather take a 3rd job to make more money to prevent selling any. I love them equally. They all have different styles and I appreciate them all. I do really appreciate seeing all different kind of engineering and unlimited creativity that we human beings are capable of.

If I am to give a suggestion to someone I feel very comfortable hanging out with, I would have no problem to say to choose on based on a look and not to be influenced by comparisons by others especially you're buying your first gun . At least to me, that's where my chemistry starts from, and it is the 'it' that gives you a motivation to learn from mistakes and get into a next level.

Walther ppq m2! I have one and absolutely love it. My only complaint is that it's got snappier recoil than other full size 9mms that I've shot. I have the 4" barrel version, the 5 incher has less muzzle rise, and is ported.
Full disclosure- I've only been shooting pistols for about a year, and haven't handled very many different models. However, my novice hands have fallen in love with the ppq.

The OP just updated the thread with what he bought... post #47:rolleyes:

The feel you get handling a gun at a show can rule in or out certain brands, but cannot be a predictor of the feel of a gun during recoil. My xds 9mm fits my hand well, but the checkering is noticeable after a few mags, especially the 7 rounder. Much nicer than say a ĺc9s, but it's a factor to consider.

As always, if you define your parameters of use, that will winnow the list initially, with handling and shooting a sample of your short list help your final decision. If you ever find your self down in the gold hill area, let me know...we can shoot steel out by the barn.

HKs are a little different and not for everyone. But they do tend to function. I'm a fan myself.
Congrats.
