need help installing rail cover/foregrip on AR

I just picked up a second hand Robinson XCR today and it has three Ergogrip rail covers to create a foregrip over the rails. It arrived with one of the three not installed and I am having a heck of a time getting it on there.

Does anybody have any tips for installing these? It looks like they are designed to slip on from the end, but every time I try to do this it locks into the recesses in the rail and then suddenly comes off when I try to push hard enough to get it further onto the rail. I already mashed my finger in the process and it seems like surely there must be an easier way to get these attached...

I finally just boiled some water and let it cool briefly, then dunked the rail cover in for a minute. When it came out it was still pretty rigid, but pliable enough to snap on with comparative ease.

I used a hair dryer on mine, worked great.
