Need area near Battle Ground

I have a new (used) 308 I want to zero in and try out a few loads. I am in need of a reasonable and quiet place to get it done. A couple friends have suggested Larch Mountain but then I was told with all the quads and people up there that it's not reasonably viable most times.

I'd prefer not to take it to a club either. Can someone suggest some place reachable by car (Not 4 wheel drive

) that's not over crowded or too far out from Battle Ground please?

To those with their secret spots, I promise that I work on a tarp and clean up after myself and won't give your spot away.

I just don't know the area well enough to find some place on my own quiet yet.

Any suggestions? (You're welcome to send it privately if you don't want it public knowledge)

I'm looking for the same information also. I have been in Vancouver for 16 years and have never found a great place to shoot. My family and I use to go shooting 3 days a week back when we lived in TX but now I think I have gone 3 times in 16 years. I really want to revive my Love for guns again and I promise to keep any areas clean as a new born Glock! :s0155:

If anyone has info on places to shoot near Battleground, Washougal, or La Center, I'd appreciate a PM. Been to the English Pit, Larch Mtn. (WA) area, and the private rifle range near the entrance to Larch which is open to the public on Sunday's. Larch and the EP are fine options if you can avoid the weekends, and its always busy on public Sunday's at the private rifle range.

I live in Vancouver, but would like to know of some quiet places to shoot during the week if you know of any suitable places that can accommodate 200-300m+ rifle practice (AR and .308). I always clean and pack out.

I know of some decent places up past Moulton Falls, up Sunset Falls Rd. It's about 30-40 mins north from Battle Ground.

503 north to cedar creek / Lucia falls road, then sunset falls rd pretty much all the way out, until you just get into the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. There will be a parking lot for camping or w/e on the right - go in there. Past that parking lot area there's a bridge. Go across the bridge, and to the left up a gravel road (National Dev. Road 41). It helps if you have 4 wheel drive, but its not necessary... I've seen VW Jettas get up there with relative ease.

As for shooting spots...there's about 2 or 3 decent ones that people use. The first one is not very far up the gravel road... maybe 1/4 - 1/2 mile. Its nothing fancy either...just a clearing to setup targets on a few fallen logs, wooded hillside, and a bit of space to park your vehicles behind/away from the shooting area. I've never shot at the other spots up there... but they look acceptable.

Those spots are pretty low key, I have never encountered other shooters, and there's rarely cars driving up that road.

Took me a while to hear about / find that spot, so pass it on to worthy shooters in the area! Just remember its a National forest...so be sure to take out anything that you take in, and be respectful of fauna/flora.

What distance are you needing

Live in Vancouver, and ever since they closed the Skamania county range out HWY 14, been at a loss. Don't shoot rifles, shoot pistols, but would love to find a secluded spot to do so. PM me please - I always clean up after myself, and am a very safe / responsible shooter.

I was excited to try a new place after reading this post so I headed out to find it. I DO NOT recommend shooting at this location. First off, it is 1.5 miles past the bridge to the first opening big enough to even think about. Secondly, there is ZERO backdrop. Nothing to stop your bullets from finding someone on the other roads that are around there. I was already there and really was just there to test out some aguila minishells, so figured I wasn't endangering anyone much by shooting #7.5 shot into the treetops. Not 10 minutes after getting there, an officer pulled up in his rig. Apparently, he was just returning from escorting other shooters back to their campsite. I didn't ask him what they were doing that he insisted they quit, but he was nervous about me and my buddy shooting there. He explained that the whole area is basically surrounded by roads. After about 10 minutes of discussion and showing him what and how we were shooting, he relaxed and left. I asked him if there was anywhere else that was safer up the road and he said that was the only opening. I already wasn't thrilled about the spot, so I won't be returning. I just figured I'd save other people the time and fuel.
