Handcuffs and other restraint tools are all part of "Problem Two" and come in WAY down the line on the priority list.
Daily carry equipment that goes on with your pants in the morning - in order of priority:
1. Gun (first rule of gunfighting is HAVE A GUN) includes a copy of your carry permit
2. Spare ammunition
3. Folding knife
4. Pepper spray
5. Cell phone
6. Business card from an appropriate (!) attorney listing after-hours contact information (first rule of Problem Two is HAVE AN ATTORNEY)
You are now equipped to respond to any threat level from annoyance to life-threatening assault and to call for cops/help/cleanup/pizza/etc after.
Detention of suspects, rendering aid to victems, etc are all part of "Problem Two", which is a separate discussion.
Personally I would consider carrying handcuffs excessive.
