Which would you choose if you were looking for a "recreational" property for RV/Cabin use that you could also relocate permanently to one day if/when one no longer wanted to be west of the Cascades? (Whatever we do it needs to be in the NW, and fairly close to the Canadian border, so WA or ID are the potential choices.)

I think a reason to choose Idaho over WA State is Idaho has a better chance of being, er, "independently-minded" if things go bad. Personally, I think WA (and OR), because of the political leanings of the population centers west of the Cascades, will pretty much go along with anything DC might try to pull.

Anyone from the east side have an opinion?

Looks unanimous so far. I couldn't think of any reason to choose WA except that it might be an hour or two closer (not a good enough reason though). If anyone has a particular area they like on the Panhandle please chime in.

Need to make your hide-e-hole in i-de-ho... I don't think you're really looking at any advantage in WA vs OR. In both states you're still looking at the slings and arrows delivered by the population dense urban cores as far as legislation goes. Idaho, and even Montana are both very free states, and I would put a premium on both provided you can take the isolation. I almost moved to kalispell to take a job, but that didn't work out.

Just if, You ever have to take to the bush, how do you want the winters to be?
I love these cascades and coast range. East side winters are hell and long.

My wife hates our Willamette Valley winters! She is adamant that any rec property (or future home property) HAS to have winter (snow on the ground that stays there!). Me... As long as we have access to the property year round I'm fine with it. But will not be looking for extreme remote either - more of a "private acreage near enough to a small town that you actually do have services/conveniences, and can get to know people."

Idaho.

If society falls it really doesn't matter. However, one should prepare for the event that it doesn't fail and dissolve. This is a much more likely scenario and should be the first consideration.

I'd look at Idaho's laws and tax structure versus Washington's. Washington politics are driven by Seattle. Idaho's by Boise? Is Idaho going to become MORE intrusive and restrictive? I know that Washington is certainly trying to become more Kalifornia-like as it's driven by the Socialists in Seattle.

Idaho!!! Beautiful country and not too populated. Prepare to be an illegal alien in some locals though, cause they hate anyone new to the area...

We have too many HO's in WA 2 of which were elected to represent us, but choose to follow the Messiah O.

Oh great - hated wherever I am. I'm kinda used to being hated here (gun-owning, libertarian minded, despise both lefties and neocons) even though I am a native Oregonian, so I suppose being hated for another couple of decades might not be the end of the world.

Idaho it is. Time to begin subliminal advertising to get my wife on board. Hopefully wearing an "Idaho" cap and shirt around the house will be subtle and effective psychological programming. :s0114:

Many move to Idaho to be with like minds and form a self preservation community.
Juat remember in a _ _ _ _ situation it will be a first hit center.
Better to learn from the enemies we found most difficult. Invisible & group when necessary.
Better a million little hornet nests over I big scorpion community. Just food for thought.
Technology is a formidable foe.
