Not like they have magazines anyways. Just the same like minneapolis when they had no mags inserted.

It's the NG. They are not exactly the main component who regularly trains like RA does. It's not uncommon to have ate up RA units or Pvt's that do some off the wall things but coming from a RA INF unit this is a whole new one to me.

When we did movements to training or deployment we had our rifles with us 24/7 with all attachments on the way they were issued from the arms room. When we flew to AFG we had our rifles on the plane at our feet facing out towards the wings, no mags inserted.

0 idea what the plan is for the Capitol vs looking intimidating and having a presence, but dear God I feel bad for the guys who have to hurry up and wait at said capitol. I'd rather be back up at 8k+ elevation baking my brains out on a mountain top for 5 days high off lack of oxygen again.

I too think its a show of force. bubblegumty day when you have to choose between following orders or possible shooting at Americans no matter what their veiews are, right, left or center.

The Soldier is verifying the serial number the optic.
They are stored in the weapons rack in that configuration.
The zero is not affected if the optic is returned to the same position on the picatinny rail...
...and you verify that the serial numbers match the weapon that you zeroed.
They store just fine with it mounted on top of the rail.

Personally I would not want to rely on this for a precision shot without confirming my zero. Guess it could fall under, "Close enough for government work."
Of course not. I would also say how many grunts do you need to make a "precise" shot, this is more a specialist role. For your everyday Joe being able to hit minute of man is good enough. Remember most rack M4's are a 4-5moa. Yes this is not ideal but when you have a large force on an assault being able to just score a hit is enough. Gotta think about the situation of use.

I was offering an explanation for the photograph.

I have seen them stored the way that I described. I believe the armorer's reason was that the optic could not be removed from the weapon without removing the rifle from the rack. I have also seen carry handles stowed on the low rail.

I would guess that the answer here has something to do with how the rifle is stored.
We didn't have such things on our rifles or carbines when I was in the Army.

That said...I did like to use the Starlight scope system...and the Leatherwood Scope on my M21....:D

On a more serious question. How come none of the gaurd I've seen on the news have mags in there weapons. There standing at the ready. Yet all there guns are unloaded ?

Well its been a few days since I was in the army...

But when standing guard at times we had :
Empty rifles and no loaded magazines....
Empty rifles and loaded magazines....
Loaded magazines , loaded magazine in the rifle , chamber empty....
Loaded magazines , loaded magazine in the rifle , round in the chamber....

This all varied to mission issues , such as Rules of Engagement , and often what seemed like some Officer's notions of what was safe ...

Again its been awhile since I was in....and then all we had to worry 'bout was keeping our flints sharp , powder dry and frizzen's clean.... :D

Because leftist morons don't know the difference between a loaded and unloaded gun. They are all weapons of war that fire 500 rounds a second.
