Movie: Red Dawn

So I'm just watching Red Dawn and how strange one of the first things the Russians/Cubans do when they invade in send someone to gather up forms from the sporting goods/gun shops to see who has guns and who they can round up.

This is such a great survival movie. I have a feeling sooner or later that movie will come true only instead of Russian/Cuban it will be the "American Police Force" lead by comrade Barry.

Any current fluid you have that will help cool your radiator will work...urine isn't the best fluid, but it will work in a pinch. Obviously, coolant is better thn water, and water is better than urine...but sometimes you gotta use what you got when you need it. Especially when water is precious (like in a survival situation) you might need to preserve the fluids that you have.

Remember that you can also drink your urine...I wouldn't do this more than twice though since the Amonia in your urine gets more concentrated each time you do this...

Plus it really stinks. A guy I know did that and his engine smelled like burnt urine. As Riot said: better than air though.

I grew up on Red Dawn, Road Warrior, and Terminator. I guess, if the Ruskies don't take over, or the nuclear holocost doesn't get you, then the machines definitely will.

actually pure water is the best coolant. If you add additives it lowers the specific heat index from 1.0 which is as high as it gets.

The only reason we add "coolants" is to prevent corrosion and freezing in certain climates.

Why do they rate the "boil over" point as being higher the more coolant you add?

because the two are different things. Capacity to cool vs boiling temp.
So Water in it's purest form has the highest capacity to cool i.e. takes more
Adding anything to water raises the boiling temperature.

Liquid cooled engines still rely on cooler air to cool the liquid, and so if you were stationary, and your fan didn't work, that's where that would matter.

Anyway, back to Red Dawn, that movie goes to show that you don't need to use a battle rifle in your SHTF situation - just need to be able to kill someone else who has one with your .22 or whatever you have!
