Addendum: Everybody in Germany during the inter-war period knew that the Fatherland lost because "The Joooz" stabbed it in the back.
They "knew" this not because it was true, but because it was all they heard 24/7. Knowing that it was agitprop didn't stop people from believing it.
Just like "The News" today.
