I just bought a very rare S&W model 66.
It is a 3 inch factory ported model 66 -4.
As I understand it. 2000 were built between 1988 and 1996. But only the last 500 had color cased hammer and trigger. The cation is way smooth.

Great find!

I found the pair in my avatar - a 66 & 60 (both no-dashes) a few years ago both unfired (no boxes or paperwork) and both had custom trigger and action jobs.

Needless to say they are both 'fired' now! - and often!

I find the model 66 to be very comfortable to shoot !
I shot some factory magnums, and it was no problem at all.
The only issue it has is that when you shoot the ports cause the front sight to get dirty quick,,,tj

The early Model 66 had a stainless steel rear sight, looks like yours does? Sights were changed after the first year
of production. Nice pistol I use to have one.
